Try the yahoo group SewIts4Sale. You can post ISO (in search of). Good luck. Hugs. Nan W
I have had 2 babylock overlockers .One bought in the 70's & a Evolve which is 6 years old & doesn't need oiling. It has never been serviced because it regularly gets brushed & vacuumed. The instruction book shows you how to clean it.There are different feet available for doing all sorts of things too.
Craft shows have the major sewing machine companies demonstrating their latest machine & offer show specials. Also if they are holding classes where you make something, the machines are often offered for sale at a discounted price at the shows end.Mothers Day , Christmas & the end of the financial year usually means discounted prices.
You could always ask your dealer ,to let you know when their is a sale on.
its good to hear that the maintenance is not super costly (im sure if you abuse it, that is a different story)
I love my Babylock imagine. Go to a Babylock dealer for the deal!! Kay
my advice is..... "if in doubt, don't" So I guess this means keep looking. Please show us when you do make a decision.
I agree with the other Cuties...get one from a dealer...many will have them when others trade up for a newer model...or many have "used" demo machines that they have used for a class or seminar that they sell very very reasonably...it is probably the best way to find one. I have a BabyLock Evolution that is self threading (Jet Air Threading)....It is a dream machine and I got it from a dealer after a serger seminar they held...it was very inexpensive compared to a "new" one...it came with the same new warranty and was only "used" for two day during the class seminar...
I agree with MOPS, a used machine from a dealer is better than from a person especially if you don't know how to do maintenance yourself. My dh is good at taking them apart, cleaning, and some repairs. Plus if you need parts, they have to come from a dealer.
I would always buy from a dealer with a good service department so I am certain of good maintenance. The cutting means more dust and fluff so regular tlc is important. I am lucky my repair guy does house calls so I don't have to take my machines on trips and he is even cheaper than many a shop. He not only cleans and oils but he also sharpens the cutting blade which means very clean-cut edges.
If a Babylock dealer knows what you are looking for, he/she will be glad to help you, I'm sure. I got my Babylock serger after a weekend class the store had.
Also, some fabric shops have a bulletin board where you can announce services and searches. As the manufacturers come out with new models for Christmas, dealers will be taking trade-ins.
ooooh good thinking....of course it will require more patience.. and i have been so patient, and wanting to get one for years....and now i am searching instead of sewing so i feel guilty lol!
Have you asked any dealers if they have either special offers on or secondhand ones?
hmmm, Im across the pond....ive always wanted to travel, but since i am looking used because money is not in abundance, i will have to keep looking....thank you!
My dealer always has excellent offers and machines barely used that have been traded in for a upgrade. He also is prepared to take payment in instalments. Buying from a dealer gives a security of mind and assistance if anything goes wrong plus the ability to get your machines serviced. I know that I have repeated what I first put
