After reading Michelle's story about the loss of her embroidery files I can't stress enough on backing up your files in as many places as possible. Here comes my disaster story:

When (reluctantly) converting to windows 10 I lost all my photo files on my computer. No problem I thought I have it on external hard drive. Forget it, this was not working, okay then my cloud back up! No success there; all folders were there but no photos in the folders (apparently it tried to upload from F drive instead of C drive). Then as last resort my CD backups. I got most of the photos back except for 2 holiday files and 1 family file.(of course the file of grandchildren as babies.) I had the luck that an computer expert could get these items from the external hard drive. So I have everything back. but even with backing up in so many places it still nearly went wrong. So if you back up do it in different places and check regularly that all these places are still working.

wow you were fortunate to get them back & of course your so right. I too had a pc crash & lost all of mine. Even my external drive was corrupted I was not so lucky & have had to ask my friends & family to send me what I emailed them I have some but lost most. So very important to have hard copies of all the important stuff

I too had lost about a years worth of designs when my computer crashed. So, my wonderful hubby bought me an external back up. Now, I don't have to worry.

Here is also a warning for Windows 10 users. After a update Windows had changed the property of all the PES files. Of course they were all there, but could not be opened.with anything windows had connected them to. After changing it back everything was back to normal. Fortunately I knew how to do that, but others may think they are corrupted or lost.

We have stressed this over and over, but it needs to be repeated especially for our new embroiderers. We can never have too many back ups. And they should all be different. We also need to have back up generators/surge protectors on each of our computers and machines. These will help to keep us from losing files and machines.

I backup the last Sunday in the month. You have me worried that backing up on my external hard drive might not be enough. You must be thrilled to get all your photos back.. I am very happy for you.
