Lovely photos. I have a 12 year old grandson that asked me if he could have my machines when I die as his father likes to sew and has taught him. But he did say he didn't want them for few years LOL
That's wonderful Raelene. I wish I could get my grandsons interested as I have enough machines to give them one each and boys really ought to be able to sew.
Hugs n love, M
I love this !! Wish I could pass the love of the sewing machine to others. Kay
You could always join Adopt a Grandparent, or approach the local schools with a plan of sharing your great love and knowledge with kiddies who have no-one like you in their lives.
I considered it myself. :-)

I love love love those pictures. With a grandma like you guiding her she will be hooked soon.
Her interest started a couple of years ago so we bought her a really lovely sewing basket and I filled it with bits and pieces from my stash. I am really happy her interest hasn't waned any. :-)
Remember the song, Give me a kiss to build a dream and my imagination. Well instead of the kiss she has a machine and will grow to be a very impressive and stylish young Miss thanks to you Grands.
Thanks Lillian, I do remember that song and yes I hope we're helping build her dream.
How is Ron doing?
hugs n love, Meg
You are such a wonderful grandma. And, she is such a luck young lady to start learning.
She started sewing a couple of years ago Maleah, her mum does lots of crafty things with the four children, she is very creative, though more out of necessity, she would have us believe. :-)
What great grandparents you are to buy her first machine. I hope she has hours of fun creating. Happy Birthday Sophia. Hugs Shirley
Shirley from the minute we set it up she sat there, with the manual, sewing out all the different stitches, nearly three hours. I think she may have wanted to take it to bed. LOL!!!!
This is the best of the best gift for her. This machine is perfect for her needs and she is going to make many very special projects with it. Kudos to her for starting her new lifelong hobby and kudos to you for this gift.
Thanks Karen, we can all only do what we can do to encourage the tree to grow once the seed is planted, but I can't take credit for planting it, just adding a little fertiliser to enhance the growth. hugs n love, m
Megane, how terrific for you both, as now you will be able to help her along her journey in the world of crafts and sewing. A great age to start learning her life long skills from Gran the expert, and hopefully she shall enjoy as much as you do. I remember at school i did not like sewing subjects, but as i grew older and as my mother was a dress maker, i did learn to become addicted to this wonderful hobby. Now i find it a real pleasure and enjoyment to be able to make things for others who are not so fortunate to be able to sew or knit. You will treasure these times together with your granddaughter and such a great gift to her which she shall treasure I am sure. My Elna and Singer sewing machines are still working well after 40 years. I am fortunate as well to have my mother-in-laws Singer machine which is now some 100 + years old and it still works like a dream. I only have one daughter-in-aw who is slightly interested, may be i can one day get her to do a few small things. Sandra.
I feel blessed her interest started a couple of years ago as her mum is really nifty with hand crafts, though not particularly machine sewing, to hear her tell it.
We promised to help Sophia get her own machine so she wouldn't have to wait, all the time, for her mum to drag hers out and set it up. We just needed the go ahead from her mum and a greatly reduced price at the local Craft store, Thank you Spotlight. :-)
I too have a Swiss made Elna, since 1968 and I promised her it will be hers when I can no longer use it, (it will probably last longer that this little machine) but this one is only a starting point for her.... it is quite a lovely compact machine so she will be able to leave it set up on her school work desk.
I remember our school sewing classes, arguing with the teacher, (at age 11) because she wouldn't let us use the machine and I had been using my Mum's for at least 4 years by then. LOL!!!
I still love sewing but not my sewing room, hopefully that will change when hubby finally realises I'm not mending his clothes AT ALL, until he fixes it up. LOL!!!
hugs n roses, M
I fully understand how proud and happy you are, as I felt about the same when my granddaughter made her first project.
That Elna is a great gift. I still have mine and it sews like a dream after al those (63) years.
It is hard being the MIL, Martine, but we are slowly working on it as my DIL opens up a little more every year.
I don't think this little Elna will last as long as yours and mine, but she will eventually have my Swiss Elna and hopefully will appreciate it all the more.
It really is special having this interest to share.
hugs n love, M
How exciting for you both! She looks like she is really concentrating on what she is doing....love to see this! Such a good Grandma you are!
Yes, I said she had to practice, practice, practice until she could change the settings without having to use the manual and she REALLY applied herself, for over three hours. :-)
It's great knowing my GD's will WANT to inherit all my machines and crafts and they won't go to landfill. :-)
