***Please read*** Cuties, we all need to be more diligent in reading posts and comments before replying. As moderators, we are not sure how to encourage this -- but I thought I would try this post. YES, it is really long...

Recently, a post was made concerning emails with a question about legitimacy. Many Cuties replied. Most of the replies have been removed. One answered with information we should all have read. She contacted the website owner (a great idea for us all) and asked about the emails. The owner had moved/changed email host servers. As a result, the emails provided a way for you to get to your previously purchased emails -- as any old links will no longer work.
It seems that very few Cuties read the information. Sadly, many "blocked" future emails from the sender or labeled the email as spam.
This causes a few issues: The email sender is "blacklisted" and punished for sending spam emails. The recipient no longer has access to the previously purchased embroidery designs. The sender may "block" future dealings with the recipient as a consequence of the unnecessary "blacklisting" and the new rules the website owner must follow for removal from the "blacklist"
Lastly, this may be one reason some of the great embroidery sites close. Fighting to get your website removed the the list -- is extremely hard after the second reported occurrence. If you love having numerous embroidery websites to choose from...stop blocking them from using their legitimate source of revenue. Please support all the embroidery websites you frequent by making purchases as often as your budget allows.

I'm curious, as I keep getting emails from yahoo groups that I did not subscribe to and I mark them as spam, but they keep coming. What exactly happens to someone who is blacklisted? Do you know? I did not mark LindeeG as spam as I have done business with her.

It is simpler to unsubscribe than to regularly keep marking as spam?

Depending on the number of recipients that mark the same email sent as spam or block messages... Various things happen -- among them are the major email providers will mark the email sender as a spammer and send a message to the website's listed contact. Once you are on a blacklist, news travels fast and all major providers will block/reject emails. That can have a serious affect on business. The issue you may be having is the "group" may use different IP addresses. Also, I found one of the "free" designs/patterns added me to a group and allowed emails without stating so or allowing me to opt out of emails.
You might be able to report the group to yahoo or your internet service provider. However, if you are one of only a few -- then you will need to take other action to get the emails stopped.

Good information. Sorry that this stuff has affected so many designers.

Me too. I wish it would not be such a problem as many embroidery shops are run by one or two people. The time and effort it takes to be removed from a blacklist is too much work for folks already working too many hours a week just to stay online.

This is over my head. I am not that internet savvy. I don't know how to block emails unless they are marked spam or un subscribe. Kay

Some of the emails marked Spam are not Spam. Some of the time emails from Cute are marked Spam -- even though I have never marked them so. It just means other people have marked them as Spam. Legitimate emails include a way to unsubscribe.
Cuties are always here to help -- just ask.

We can hope it helps. At the very least, if they all read through the comments, it should prevent some misunderstandings.

I'll just add, that if you don't want to receive their emails any longer, ask to be removed from their mailing list.

I always tell my customers that if they do business with a company, they can unsubscribe safely. Even if you only get free designs, you are doing business.
