I think you should contact a Bernina dealer and ask them. Some machines won't recognize an updated version of a software. It could be that the newer software would have an option to save it in the correct format for the 180 too. I don't always upgrade to the newer versions if I'm happy with the one I have. Sometimes it seems to me that they do add enhancements...but things I would never do so I don't always upgrade.
My original software on the 180 machine was art 3 & I needed an upgrade to go to art 4 which is what I still use.

It just means it is from different software versions. I always download the
highest one as it is a beter quality. Version 8 is out now. If your Artista software is lower that the version of the design, it will not open it.Hope it helps
