My SS gift arrived today I can't wait to open it. Thank you SS
Yesterday I made my gift for the Secret Santa exchange but of course I can not show it to you because then it wouldn't be a secret. It is boxed up and ready to go but I think I'll wait a bit before I put it in the mail so as to keep my SS in suspense longer.
My gift also arrived this morning so I better not add my likes and dislikes as its too late
BUT the thought that someone has made something for me is BRILLIANT
Let me be the first to announce that my gift has arrived! It is going to be very difficult to not open for almost a whole month. Hugs. Nan W
I have no self control. Mine will be opened as soon as it gets here. You see, that way I have more time to enjoy it. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
I would love anything my ss makes because I know the time and thughts that go into making something for someone. I love owls, towels, kitchen things sewing things but what ever my ss makes for me I knows I will love it.
Hello, Happy Thanksgiving Cuties ! I have just noticed this post, as I have been recovering from a surgery and have not been on the internet much . I will be thrilled with anything that my Secret Santa makes for me. I would prefer a year round item rather than a Christmas item. My favorite color is light blue. Most of my rooms have blue accents in them. I love designs of vintage sewing items and sewing machines, teacups and teapots, and heart designs. I love anything quilted. Anything will be perfect ,enjoyed and appreciated.
I love the secret Sister swaps, and I don't think I've ever gotten a bad gift from anyone. I decorate in earth tones, such as sand, beige and tans mostly. I do not like monogramed or personalized items. I don't care for Prime designs, but am a HUGE fan of Steampunk designs. My favorite website is Urban Threads. I have lots of towels right now. I love color in general. I love FSL, ITH, and homemade items. I am open to all year around or Christmas. I just love seeing what everyone has made and received each year. And wonder if someone could find and post the last few years swaps to give some of us ideas for gifts.
I just know I will love what ever I get, its the thought that counts the most. I see lots of very talented people on here and don't feel I am as talented in some areas as they are, but I don't let that stop me, AND I hope that doesn't let it stop anyone from trying something new if they so chose.
Hugs
Diane
You've given your secret sister some great ideas -I'll have to look up what 'Prime' designs are! The only past swap I could get to come up was the mid year Pincushion one -there were some great ones in there to re-admire though! http://www.cuteembroidery.com/102...
Here is last year's thread with gifts received, maybe something will trigger someone to make something. Love Chris

2015
Ok.I am going to be difficult. The only thing I do not like is neon colors. My home is decorated in Fall colors and when I wear things I love anything that has blue in the tone like purple, teal etc. Other then that I truly like surprises. So make something you enjoy creating and thanks for the effort.
I just find this thread to day, I was fetching in "embroideryand I had ot find it!
I should like something for everyday rather than for christmas, ornament or religious. I like all what is useful, for example coaster, towel, bag, or anything for a surprise, because i like surprise very much! Anything that is made for me will please to me!
I see that my secret sister has not yet post his taste here, and it should be more easy for me if she tell here what she like!!!!
This is hard to write as I know I will love any gift I receive. I like surprises so any gift handmade or otherwise will be good. Red is my favorite colour and I love autumn shades and Red and Green Christmas colours.
I decorate in peach country blue and cream...I prefer something I could use year round...not Christmas or any other holiday...I am an avid sewer and embroiderer...also love cooking...kitchen is country, but not rooster or hen "country"...more folk art...love tole painting and Danish or Norwegian classic designs like Rosemailing...also love Mehndi style linework designs...love the Secret Cute Swaps!!!
Favorite color is purple. I like year round things the most, just because I can use them whole year ! some tips; could use a nice mug rug for my coffee cup at the office, can you very well a scissor protector for the scissors I take with me every Thursday to sewing classes, can use a new lunch bag, .. you lots of things.. but all usefull everyday...
I'm not your SS, but are those long scissors or short little embroidery scissors?
I like year round designs as well as Christmas. I lean toward whimsey rather than formal. My favorite color is blue, but my whole (small) house is painted buttery gold. Right now I'm using turquoise as an accent color in my bathroom. I've never had a mug rug and I always need pot holders and kitchen towels. I will appreciate any gift my Santa picks out!!
I do not like funky designs. Love red poppies, roosters . My tree is decorated in Mardi Gras. Purple. My bathroom has red poppies except at Christmas snowmen. I also like coasters and hot pads . I hang items with sewing designs in the sewing room
HI ALL I FORGOT TO TELL MY SCTEAT SISTER I HATE CLOWENS AND SNAKES...I CANT EVEN TYP THE WORD I HATE THEM SOOOO MUCH.
I AM SURE YOU WILL DO A FANTASTIC JOB ON WHAT EVER YOU DO..THANKS SUE FOR ALL YOUR HEARD WORK....LUCY... I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO MAKING MY SISTERS GIFT....
My turn! I don't have a preference whether Christmas or other. That said, I love Christmas and prefer traditional colors. My home is western (not Southwestern kokopeli style). Earthtone colors such as beiges, browns and soft greens and rusts. I love to set the table each evening for husband and myself, so placemats and napkins are a favorite, as well as coasters and kitchen towels. Hugs. Nan W
I just love Christmas, I am a traditional colours girl. Love things with Santa, Snowmen and elves on them. Tea towels, placemat for my table or hand towels are always welcome. Anything you decide on will be loved.
I'm a bit boring I love Christmas tea towels. My kitchen is blue and cream, but I am a traditionalist and love red, green or gold. Love Chris
Okay, it seems that I feel the need to give lots of you a nudge! If I run by you a list of stuff, can you please, please suggest something you might like your Secret Sister (or brother, Dennis!), to make for you? Even some colours, embroidery style, fabric types might help get your very thoughtful secret sister on the road to making something to thrill you! Coaster, mugmat, bag (and particular size), purse, wallhanging, placemat, tree ornament, covered notebook, pen/pencil holder, handkerchief, redwork, filled, lace, something personalised, car trash holder, plastic or cloth carry bag holder, cushion cover (& size), awareness sign for anything in particular, wine bottle bag, something relating to wild animals, zoo animals, cats, dogs, guinea pigs, birds, ladybugs....I'm sure there are more ideas that others can throw in!
Having said all that, I could have mentioned some of my own! :) I love blues, greens and most other colours but not so much yellow or light colours that might get dirty too quickly! Love mugmats and they are easy to post. I would use one every day and spare a thought for who may have made it for me.
I hope you won't mind me adding a few more suggestions to your post Marianne.
There are lots of great items that can be made for anyone who sews and that encompasses all of us. There are dozens of different kinds of pin cushions, including ones that can be worn on the wrist, then there are needle cases, scissor holders and combinations of the two or even a thread catcher. Then there are those fabulous mug dilly bags that you can take if you go to craft groups.
There is also a favourite of mine (I love to make) a cushion cover that holds ones pyjamas and sits on the bed or even a lovely pair of embroidered pillow cases, not forgetting another old favourite is a pot holder or glove type pot holder or pan handle type pot holders.
Hopefully these few suggestions will complement Marianne's and give further inspiration.
Are we having fun yet? :-)
It is kind of you to be thinking of my inclusion in the Secret Santa event but I have to decline for numerous reasons that impose on me. This is predominantly my health and not wanting to get half way through something and then being prevented from completing it. Thank you for your kind thoughts though.
You will be in on it in spirit of course, Dennis! We would all love you to be able to take part, I'm sure, and hope that maybe things might improve for your health. Meganne, I love your extra suggestions, and welcome many more. My words were inspired by you, some time ago, having uttered similar sentiments in the line of giving your giftmaker some hints. It is way more difficult to think something up out of thin air without some guidelines and we all want to make our recipients really happy.
I do not do a lot of decorating for Christmas anymore so I would rather have something that is not specifically for the holidays, but that being said, I will let my Secret Santa decide what she wants to make. If she likes it I probably will too.
I'm not your secret sister, but I urge you to think up some things or even colours that you do like -it makes it so much easier for your secret sister to be able to feel she's made something specifically for you! It's so hard to choose with no guidelines at all!
One of the reasons I didn't specify is not knowing what falls into my SS's budget. In the past I have received some very pricey gifts and I felt bad because my gift was not so extravagant. But I like kitchen or hand towels, purse accessories and coasters. I love dragonflies. I hope this helps.
Fantastic improvement, thanks! I'm afraid some giftmakers just have so much trouble restraining themselves, so I think we all need to try to set a good example and attempt to stick with something moderate but thoughtful. For those who do receive more than one gift, I think just including one item in the picture that we post would be a good idea.
I think posting one gift is a good idea but would the giver then feel slighted and think her gift wasn't appreciated?
I think they would understand and would most likely be aware that they didn't stay within the guidelines. I think it is more important for everyone to feel comfortable with participating without the need to measure up to over the top gifts :)
I'm putting all my Secret Santa thoughts into the perfect project for the person on the receiving end. I have 2 projects in mind, yes I know only 1 is allowed and I will stick to the rules. After I choose the perfect fabric I will work out the details ,probably make both then change my mind and do something entirely different. As for myself I do like butterflies
Bev
I'm with lilylady, what ever she would like to make. It is the thought that counts. I am sew excited already...
Oh dear Sue I find this rather difficult to put down in words I can only say anything hand made and time taken in the making is always welcome it does not matter how big or small the gift it , it's the effort and time taken I do like earthy colours and greens there is not much in the craft and sewing line that I dislike
