I have posted on here about my machine shredding thread and driving me crazy. So I took it back today, and they had me thread it and try a design there, and it worked perfectly! Brought it home and it is doing a great job. How silly do I feel! And I still don't know why it was messing up. Maybe I just wasn't holding my mouth right. I am not to the state where I'm laughing about it yet, but my husband sure is...

I came across this problem at the dealers. They were having the problem. It was just before I bought my emb machine so I listened carefully.
They found that when the thread was sitting in its preferred position it worked fine. But put it on a thread stand either on the machine or next to it and it played up.
The thread had to be in the ONE position or it played up.
So try the thread in another machine to see if it is the thread or that you have not, as yet, found its preferred position in which to be used with THAT machine. :-)
Sometimes by just moving the thread an inch I get a better result.
Emb machines are like cats - they are sneaky and pretend that they do not understand you.
Good luck

It did behave just fine at the dealers, and they put the thread on the machine, and I use a thread stand. I'll have to experiment and take notes. Thanks!

this happened to me when I took my machine in he cut the thread by the spool and held it there and down by the needle and pulled it back and forth like flossing and said a small fragment of thread could have stuck in there. because my thread kept breaking and shredding. its been working fine since keeping my fingers crossed . Or maybe it just wanted a car ride too. LOL

I read a tip somewhere that you should thread your machine with dental floss and pull it through to remove any minuscule bits of thread. I do this every time I think of it. :-)

parkermom by parkermom 13 Dec 2016

I have been looking for unwaxed floss to try.

I once took my machine in for service because I was getting black spots on my fabric. Took it in 3 times...only to find out that I needed to clean my foot. They were nice to me which helped me get over my embarrassment. You are not alone in having a machine that only acts up at home.

Mine is a combo sewing machine/embroidery machine, and throughout this whole thread shredding nightmare, it has sewn just beautifully. Strange.

meganne by meganne 12 Dec 2016

Now see this is what upsets me, my Diamond skips stitches doing ordinary sewing......
it's like the needle goes down, it doesn't catch the bobbin thread to make a stitch, but because (top) thread is still being fed through, the next time the needle goes down there is a loop formed by the excess (top) thread (from the uncaught previous stitch) and THAT thread loop goes underneath the needle, and whammo thread shredded!!! and if I'm not sitting there watching it it ends up in a right mess.
I told the repair shop counter staff all this but It's like they weren't even listening so when my machine came back (after costing $150) it was no better. So frustrating!

I'm not laughing at you, I'm laughing WITH you. Sometimes a girl (machine) just needs some special attention.

I'd like to give my Diamond some special attention Jerrilyn...... but for it costing $10,000 I would have given it a Sledge Hammer make-over months ago!

parkermom by parkermom 09 Dec 2016

I don't know how I can get so angry at this machine--its my first embroidery machine and I love it so much, but it drives me crazy!

Since my DH moved my machine to a different table (completely level!) - shredding has stopped (knock on wood)! Hope yours stays okay!!! Hugs!

Laura, I wonder if that could mean there is hope for my machine?
We moved it back downstairs a couple of months ago but I have been too despondent to even try it again! You've given me new hope! I'll try using it again as soon as I go downstairs to sew. Thank you for sharing. Hugs, M

dailylaundry by dailylaundry 08 Dec 2016

Oh, Meg - hope this helps! My Hubby insists that a level table makes a difference. I feel like finding some wood to knock on!! Good luck - let us know how it went!! Hugs, Laura

parkermom by parkermom 09 Dec 2016

My husband checked my table, and it is level, so I've moved the thread stand way away and am hoping for the best.

Yes, i also think it is the thread!!! I have a spool of Mederia that causes me grief to use it. I took a sharpie pen and wrote on the magic tape I use to secure it, bad spool!!! At least I know it is a trouble maker. Kay

Why oh why can't I just throw away a bad spool? It needs to be thrown away, but I can't seem to part with any of it

pennyhal2 by pennyhal2 09 Dec 2016

Sometimes it is just one color in a line that the machine won't like too. My Bernina hates Florini.

PeggyJ by PeggyJ 13 Dec 2016

I must laugh. I also have a spool marked "bad" and it is still in the storage area. Just cannot throw away also.

My machine is shredding thread too. Maybe it just wants to get out of the house. If I thought a car ride would help I would give it a try. LOL

Who knows why they get temperamental, but it sure is a puzzle to me.

It is so annoying to have a machine act up, then become a perfect angel at the shop. Been there, done that! Sometimes there is just a little thread or dust something that you just can't see. Thankfully, your problem is solved.

Maybe it just wanted a car ride to calm itself down.

I am so glad your machine is working properly again, I wish I could have the same result.
My Designer Diamond is still playing up, shredding, skipping stitches, etc. even when straight sewing.
I took the same design (purchased from Urban Threads so not that) the same threads (Robison Anton), same bobbin thread, same needle (80/12 Schmetz), same underlay and same fabric (lightweight denim jacket) and stitched it out on one of my Elna Xquisite2 machines and 75 minutes later the job was done.
Now my Diamond just sits on my favourite sewing desk taking up valuable space and urking me every time I look at it.
Maybe next year I'll find enough patience to sit at it and investigate the issue again. :-)

Reading the comments has reminded me of once when I was at the dealers and he showed me a machine that was doing something similar. They tested and all was fine then the machine went home and the problem started again with the thread shredding. The dealer asked that the thread that was being used came in with the machine and he tested the thread on another machine and yes the cause was the thread not the machine. Anyway very glad to hear that your machine is working properly again for you. Is your husband still laughing?

My husband and I are so very fortunate to be able to laugh at ourselves often. He got an ice cream cone out of the trip so he was fine! That's a treat we don't keep in our house because I have no self control.

Similar thing happened to me----breaking---shredding--looping above and below---grrrrrr
Stitched out same design (attempted) on doll t-shirts that I bought--it did all that I mentioned above---arranging to take it to a VERY RELIABLE repairman about 1 1/2 hours away---said and thought ugly words---
Then I tried names on a bandana----PERFECT---different thread but PERFECT stitches-----I think it was the designs----they were free--not all freebies are bad but not all good either.
Guess these are all familiar issues with every stitcher---
Glad your issues were resolved----hope they continue to be resolved.
Merry CHRISTmas and GOD BLESS YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

thank you, and God bless you too! I've had thread issues too and not enough sense to toss the thread at once.

That happened to me several times with one machine... IT turned out it was the thread. Every time the guy worked my machine he used his thread and it was OK. Then when I tried the same thing.no good . IT was new thread and the owner of the shop remembered there as a problem with that thread and the manufacture had skipping a step on the finishing of the thread. So I returned all the thread I had bought and got new one. Worked like a charm. So you are not alone... hehe

It is frustrating to know there's a problem and it not showing up for someone else.

Sometimes just the jostle in a car can click something back into line or dislodge a tiny piece of thread to small for our eyes to see. Hope it keeps behaving for you.. Marian

Maybe that was the case. An hour on the highway gets a lot of jostling for sure.

Always happens when you have a problem with the car. Take it to the mechanic and the problem magically disappears.

My husband is still kind of grinning at me. It was a cold dreary day and maybe we just needed the smile. Although it is breaking thread but not shredding it as much. So I guess it's progress.

That makes you so mad when things like that happen. Pleased to hear all is well now. At 9.30PM last week when we leaving the old house with the last of our belongs our van decided not to start. Called roadside assistance and when he came it started 1st try. He followed us to our new home. Next day went out for a short trip, parked out the front while we were having lunch and when we went to go out in the afternoon no go again. Frustrating. Hugs

I'm worried that it is a fluke that it is working now. I love this machine, so maybe it needed some "alone time" with me.

dragonflyer by dragonflyer 06 Dec 2016

Did you use your thread... the one that was giving you problems...if not, it could be a problem with the thread...I got a couple of bad spools that I had to have replaced...
