This was last year's effort. I'm no cake decorator but I was pretty chuffed with this.
My only complaint was that the Marzipan, underneath the Royal icing, wasn't very strong in flavour so I was disappointed.
Mine came out of the oven 1 hr ago & is sitting on the rack cooling still in the cake tin but it now has a hole in one corner .Husband attacked it with a spoon ,you must have well behaved husband.
LOL!!! My hubby only has one hand so he won't risk losing it just to sneak a taste before Christmas. ROFLMBO!!!
I am kidding of course. :-)
nice work on the "patchwork" almonds/cherry design. Made mine on a cool day last week and the smell is like no other.
Sure looks good. Not to many people in my family like Christmas cake, do not know why. Enjoy it when it is ready. Merry Christmas
Yes it is an acquired taste, we were brought up having Fruitcake and Fruit pudding and I love both but yet I don't like fruit mince pies. :-)
In my family , it was a ritual making fruit cakes as they were served at Thanksgiving and Christmas with a bowl of boiled custard at my grandparents home. My Mon was in charge of both. I remember cutting every raisin into with a pair of kitchen shears. My Mon always put the cakes in a covered tin to ripen. She always put a cloth on top that had been soaked in muscadine wine on top and she put an apple wedge slice on top. She would open the tin and re soak the cloth as necessary. You brought back a very early childhood memory. God bless you! Kay
It is lovely to recall such beautiful memories Kay.
I hope my boys will remember taking turns at "stirring the love" into the Christmas pudding every year when they were growing up. I didn't make pudding this year as I left it far too late, so I hope the cake has long enough to im'prove'. :-)
Looks terrific Meg,very decorative. I bet it will taste super. Sandra.
Yummy - I can almost smell it!!
It's all I could smell for the last four days while the fruit was soaking up the Brandy, that and my favourite flowers, Gardenias. It isn't Christmas to me without the smell of Gardenias. :-)
OMG, Meg, as Toogie says, always designing......this is a masterpiece!
Forever the designer Meg! Even your cake is pretty. I 'll bet it's good too.
Looks beautiful..too pretty to eat...
LOL!!! I don't think my conscience will trouble me any when I bite into it. :-)
