I FIND THAT IT IS NOT THE SEWING SO MUCH THAT TAKES THE TIME, IT IS CHOOSING THE DESIGN, WHAT COLOURS ETC.
I KNOW THAT I DO NOT CHARGE ENOUGH BUT ALL MY ORDERS ARE FROM FRIENDS.
I'm not really sure what makes a tea towel different from any other towel except maybe the size. The biggest cost for me in making a towel is the cost of the towel itself. I find that even if I make the towel myself, the cost of fabric and time it takes puts the cost pretty much out of the range of what people will pay for it. There seems to be an upper limit to what will sell and the limit seems to be $5 where I live.
Having said that, as a general rule I go by doubling the cost of supplies. That doesn't account for the time I put in, but it'd never sell if I charge for my time too. It's just a hobby for me...not a sell for profit operation.
I sell the tea towels for 7.50 € and I use tea towels with 50% linen which is a very good quality (price 2.00 €/towel). These towels last quite long and dry really well.
I have been making tea towels embroidered to sell, and I will charge $4.00 each and 3 for $10.00. I buy my tea towels from ebay, where I can find plain color at reasonable price.
I do not do anything to be paid for it. For the things that friends absolutely really want I have them get the supplies . I make them a list, have them get a half yard or so of stabilizer, the towel they want, and all the colors of thread.I tell them up front that the thread will cost a bit but they can leave it with me and that will be their fee. This is usually a fair trade and I have built up a nice selection of threads. I figure my time is worth the friendship.
I pay $1.00 for tea towels and charge
$2.50, when embroidered, I usually do applique which is not so many stitches...wendy
I get $10 for for my towels.I price them so my consignment get 30%.. I try not to have more than $2.00 in each towel and then all my work. i am not greedy. If you price them too high will not sell them and if you price them too low you will not make any money. Kay
I keep a supply of towels and I try to not pay more than $2 per towel (hard to do). I charge the $2 for the towel and $1 per thousand stitches and then knock a bit off. My sewing store always tells us we should be able to get $1 per thousand stitches, but I have not found that to be true in southern USA,
I SEE IT COMES IN 3 SIZES MAKE SURE YOU ALLOW FOR THAT IN YOUR PRICE. ASK THEM TO SUPPLY TEA TOWEL TO CUT YOUR COSTS DOWN. YOU PAID $2.99 USA ABOUT $3.92 CANADIAN FOR DESIGN.
SO IF YOU BOUGHT A TEA TOWEL FOR $2 IT WOULD COST YOU AT LEAST $5.92 TO MAKE. SO AT $5 YOU HAVE LOST 92 CENTS.
I WOULD SAY $10 IS A FAIR PRICE. REMEMBER OTHERS MAY WANT YOU TO DO THINGS FOR THEM SO START OUT WITH YOUR HAPPY PRICE.
charge 5 to 10 bucks depending on how much work u did ok
THANKS..ALOT OF WORK WENT INTO THE TEA CUP YOURKIE..2 HRS STABLIZER THREAD ... THANKS...LUCY
TWO HOURS STITCHING MEANS A LOT OF THREAD. $10 WOULD BE THE LOWER END OF THE SCALE.
I just GOOGLED "charge for machine embroidery". Several articles came up. Let us know if any helped you.
