Good morning Cuties, I finally got back in my sewing room and finished this elk tote I started a while back. I always press as I sew, so when I touched the POLYESTER webbing with the hot iron, it MELTED. I think I got aggravated and that's why it went in the UFO file.

The design is from Embroidery Library with many stitches. I have pes format and when I dl the design, it came up in horrible colors. Thank goodness I remembered to save the color chart.
I bought a canvas drop cloth and stabilized it with Pellon 809 to make the body, of the bag. I pre-washed the drop cloth beforehand and boy did it wrinkle! I had some left over brown canvas I used for my bottom and those poly straps.
I also lined the bag with the same Pellon backed canvas, however, I forgot to add any inside pockets. How many bags have I made?!!// I think I just wanted to get finished with this one......
So now I have another gift for my niece to give away, on the Colorado trip, as they plan to see elk when they go. Hope you like it and as always, hope you have a great day!-Toogie

Just beautiful Toogie. I did all my bags I gave my ladies luncheon group without pockets inside and I rue it to this day. I use mine every day and get so frustrated as everything goes to the bottom!!! Love Chris

I like a purse with inside pockets, too. I like to reach in and actually find what I am after. My sister on the other hand, likes huge bags and doesn't mind 'digging around' for what she's after, even though most of the time it IS on the bottom. Thanks Chris-Toogie

Thank you Sandra. The design is very nice but so many stitches on top of stitches, makes it kinda hard. Thank goodness its okay and worked on this canvas fabric.

Well done, whoever receives it will be fortunate. It will be perfect to hold all the things people pick up as they travel. You did a great job as usual pockets or not.

That's so nice of you to say, thanks. I want to make more things and wouldn't mind making more totes, if the cotton webbing wasn't so high.

This is great. You have to be so proud of this. I know I would be. The stitching is superb!

Thanks Wendy, I don't know about proud, I'm just glad to be done with it. I think if I did anymore I would make the strap out of something else. If I bought cotton webbing @ $1.74 yard, it would be almost $6 just for the straps!

A beautiful save. Well done. It is a must to always print Emblibrary designs color charts. Sometimes I spent more time in my software trying to straighten out the colors than I do stitching them. I do however love their designs. My format is Art and I learned years ago to buy Pes from Emblibrary. I do appreciate the fact that Veronica's Art format designs are true Art. Kay

When I was first saving designs, I wasn't too worried about not having the color chart. Now I know the value of having them at your fingertips.
Thanks Kay for looking!

Everything about this is perfect! You have a lot of patience in sticking with this project to the finish. I imagine that working with a drop cloth would be very difficult let alone turning it into something so fantastic! Well done and completed!

Wasn't hard at all to work with, after I washed and dried it softened up. I bought it at Harbor Freight, a man's tool store. The drop cloth wasn't much and if I decide to make any more I should get 3 totes made out of one drop cloth.

sewdeb by sewdeb 24 Feb 2017

I love finding sewing items at a hardware/non-sewing store! Seems things are just cheaper.

toogie by toogie 25 Feb 2017

They are and so do I love finding the unexpected.
It's kinda like clothing. Men's clothing are usually bigger, but cheaper. The manufactures know men won't pay the high price women pay, is what I think!

It is beautiful. They should have no trouble seeing Elk here in CO. Sometimes pockets are not necessary. When I take a notebook to a conference, I have a small purse I drop in my big carrier bag.

So you're in Colorado? The Royal Gorge is on the itinerary, is that anywhere near you?
I know my niece wanted to do the tour after the end of May, but the spokeswoman she was talking to told her the elk would move up into the mountains by then. So the trip is planned for earlier.

A pattern? Remind me with a pm and I will measure and tell you what size I cut this one. Don't have time right now. I'm killing time, waiting on DH to get ready. We have a wake to go to.

Oh have you 'been there, done that' too? I think I had got 5 yards for $2. of this polyester webbing, where as cotton webbing was $1.74 a yard. Now I know why the poly was so cheap....can't iron!
