Toogie, I had a similar one from Bernina for my 800 series and it instructed to hoop sticky stabilizer........the sticky held the rest of the hat in place while the clamp held the bill.........the bernina one though had a whole piece of plastic though with the window cut out and the whole thing fit in the 5x7 hoop.......
to awesome1-here is the one my husband made me from a clipboard. I used it to emb on 3 caps, but the clamp/clip to hold the brim, doesn't hold it very well. I thought this 'bought one' would be better but NO. I think I like my clipboard better because at least I can hoop my stabilizer. Maybe I just need a stronger clipboard. Although the brim doesn't go under the clip very far.......See how I have a wrinkle at the top of the deer antlers. I would have liked to stitched it and the monogram closer to the hat band..
Try using a baste around stitch to hold the hat in place. I too would love a hat hoop that really works well but just don't do enough hats to warrant spending $100+ as some I have seen. Hugs. Nan W
Hello, what size is the clip board? What measurements are required to cut in the middle.
arsenio my hubby cut the clipboard to fit inside my 5x7 hoop. The hole cut out in the middle is about 5inches wide and 6 inches long. Just leave you enough around to clamp inside your outer hoop.
Hi I ordered a hat hoop from www.hathoop.com and it works very well. It fits a 5x7 hoop and has wing nuts to hold the bill of the hat I use sticky tearaway
Here's mine from years ago. As you can see the clipboard was from Office Depot and had a very strong clamp. I found I could even turn back the inside band to get even closer and tape it to the underside of the bill.

Thanks again jrob, you're the one that got me curious to see if I could do one years ago.
Hubby made mine, last week, just like yours I made cap to try out, works fine. Now need more tacky stabilizer. And next is the machine riser.
Toogie, return the hoop and make one from a clip board for a couple of bucks. A lot of us have done it..for our 5 X 7 hoop. Works great. Fits in outer part of hoop, tighten to hold in place. The clip holds the hat. I got instructions from YouTube ...the hardest part is cutting the hole in the clipboard. Slide your stabilizer under the hoop. I'm sorry, I can't remember the site, butter you can find it. I think mine was posted into projects over a yr at, but I can repost or pm if you're curious.
A friend ordered it for me and ordered her one too. I do hope she sends them back........
When I got my clipboard--at Walmart- they had several styles and prices/ I didn't want to splurge until I knew it worked. Your jobs look pretty good for the cost of the improvised hoop, don't you think? Did you open out the band inside to let you get closer to the visor? I bet the recipient did not complain, tho.
I gave the deer one to a brother-in-law and he was very pleased. I just didn't like the wrinkle. Yes, like I said, I like the clipboard better and I think we will be sending our bought ones back. I just need a stiffer, stronger clipboard.
I went and checked out the site and I see 2 people have returned the item because they can't work it out either.
Seems as something is missing.
Hope this helps!
I thank you for finding this. I have read through the steps but this Step 6 is ridiculous. There is not enough open area in the throat of the machine for hoop to attach to the arm of the unit and fit in the throat area.
So you use the sticky stabilizer on the backside of the hat frame. That is the only thing holding the stabilizer from what I can understand....I wonder how well it stays put....I guess I am a skeptic here....Oh well, I'm not out much for the hat attachment, but I hate to mess up a good hat!-lol
I would contact the company you purchased this from and ask them for the instructions...perhaps there is another instruction sheet (?)...also ask about the attachment to your hoop and the clearance issue....
