I use a teflon sheet for appliqué and ironing all things that are very delicate.Especially organzas and embroidery designs. a universal necessary item. I also now use for my general clothes ironing where needed. I guess you could say yes they both serve the same purpose and called different names in different countries. Hope this helps you. Sandra.
I guess Teflon sheet would be correct for the applique and a cotton pressing cloth for regular fabrics that are not being "glued". However, I use my Teflon sheet for pressing embroidery so I don't melt the or burn the various thread. I used to use a cotton press cloth but I burned it.
I know of a pressing sheet to be used to lay over the piece you are pressing, whether it be applique or just a specialty fabric that one does not want the iron to touch directly. The teflon sheet is an awesome piece that you can assemble your applique pieces on, press and transfer to the area you want your applique to be attached. It is also great to lay over the applique area and press.......almost like your own peal away sheet. Hope this helps
I f somebody said to me pressing sheet I would think about one of those padded sheets you put your embroidery one to eliminate wrinkles. The teflon one is the kind you put between your iron and fusible material so it does not stick to the iron. However I also found that different areas and countries us different names.
