Update - I've added a coaster!

There are lots of teacher gifts around at the moment. In 35 years at the chalk face teaching secondary science I never received a personal gift so I've made this one for myself! The design is from The Chemistry Set now available in Engineered in Stitches. The set includes element tiles, several words and a few random extras. The second picture is of the inside.

(Mike bought me the lovely fabric for my birthday which made me look up and update some designs I did a long time ago.)

Sometimes we just have to be selfish and make something for our self. Glad you did that one and now you are sharing it.with others. Well done.

Congratulations on your Teacher Gift even if you did have to make it ;-) . Great fabric for it also. Wonderful job and very appropriate, but like so many of your posts it shows your creativity.

Love the bag and the fabric. DH is a Chemical Engr. Wonder what I could make for him if I had this fabric? Still, at this time there are so many UFO's in my sewing room and not yet done with cleanup and reorganization since the flood, so I'm only dreaming.
You do such nice work Sue, one of these days I'll have to make use I my membership to your Facebook page.

I LOVE the fabric! Thoughtful gift. Good to see those chemical elements again. Makes a lovely purse.

The coaster brought back a lot of memories - started life as a chemical lab assistant; at the time we used this sort of equipment with a bunsen burner underneath, to be replace by electric heaters (which required flat-bottomed flasks) as the organic solvent and open flames aren't a good combination.

In my last school, parents uses to show their appreciation for the school rather than individuals. At this time of year, large amounts of sweets, chocolates and biscuits used to appear in the staff room.

I was a Social Studies teacher and it was quite common to get a personal gift. The school was in a farming community and most children did not have much. The best gifts were heart felt letters. One time I got a big bag of pecans (yes they raised pecan trees) and another unusual gift was a bag of fish (daddy was a fisherman). Secondary students can be creative. I think it is so cool that your husband knew just what you needed. Your bag is awesome.
