UPDATED. Sugartoes is grounded to the house. I went to the neighborhood yard sale this morning and a neighbor said, oh you live on the pond that had the baby bear yesterday! They are supposedly trying to decide what to do about removing him, as we are considered a sanctuary for deer, wild turkeys, little foxes...

Update: had a conversation with the Wildlife Biologist in state capital today and he was confident if no one sighted bear in past four days, he is miles and miles from here by now. Sugartoes has had the afternoon outside basking in his chair and sniffing his woods. (Happy Ending.) Now, ya'll I have a southern accent, and I don't usually make fun of accents, but this guy sounded out of the movie "Deliverance". Aaahm show-were that bar is mahles from you by now. You gotta love it!

What??? Are you considering keeping a bear??? I think it is probably already imprinted on you. Have you talked to a qualified wild animal rehabber? The words "lions and tigers and bears oh my" is repeating in my head. Very different from foxes and wild turkeys. Can't wait for the next chapter of this story.

No. The neighborhood association in connection with wildlife officer has to try to catch and remove to wildlife area OR shoot. That's the decision to be made, but they have to find him again. Sadly, it may be a financial decision, depending on budgetary and time limits. First time he was spotted, they shot off a rattle gun to scare him away, but they said he was "people friendly" already and came right back.

I get it now, sugartoes is your dog. Lol! I must have been still asleep when I read your post.

Sugartoes is incensed and asked me to inform you that he is a grey tabby cat. Very sweet one, too.

Lol! You have made my morning. I have a Siamese mix and I know when he is upset with me. We had my daughter kittens in the bedroom and she thought it would be cool if Jack knew about them. He only saw a paw and the whole family heard about it for 3 days. Loudly. Please extend my sincerest apologies.

Ah, yes, bears are quite terrifying to see in person. I have lived in this house for over 40 years, my in laws before that. When my children were growing up, they played outside anywhere. 10 years or so ago, some bears wandered into the area-which has some woods, but is very populated-and they are here to stay. This is western central NJ . Bears lovers say they were here first, but not. They knock over garbage cans, we can't have a bird feeder anymore. We got a dog so my grandson would be reasonably safe outside. I certainly don't feel comfortable. Certainly at night, but they have come through the yard in the daytime. There are houses all around me, and a school half a mile up the street. How no one seems to worry is beyond me. These things are big-black ones.

What an exciting life! I admit I will be very happy to never see a live bear in my yard. Keep Sugartoes and yourself safe.

Oh my! A friend a few miles away said this happened to her. A man she knows said he was on his way to work early one morning and he saw a bear trying to get into her garbage container! We usually DON'T have bears around, but the last couple years they have been spotted.

All I know he is WAY lost. They think he came down from Talladega, Alabama area, but I thought all they had there was racecars!
