I've been bitten by three ticks just this week! I hate those little things. And I was only outside for a few minutes. I think I emit some kind of chemical that lets bugs know to get me. Then they tell their friends and they come too.
My husband said on the news yesterday they reported about ticks being so bad and some people even died.....I have two flower beds I keep telling my husband to just mow over since its weeds and not flowers anymore. I can't work my beds like I used to without being down with my back for a week or more, so those beds look horrible. I asked for my kids to work cleaning out the beds for mothers day. I would pay for the dirt, plants, etc if they would just do the work for me wouldn't cost a thing from them. I got bought gifts instead.........Be careful of the spiders and snakes. We've been having a lot of both.
Ticks are very dangerous as Lyme disease has affected so many people and it is usually misdiagnosed. I am sad about your beautiful garden, I remember seeing the pics and oh it was gorgeous. I am confident that next year you will be posting pictures. You have had a lot going on this past year so it is OK. It is beneficial to rest a garden anyway.
It ran away, did not charge you, which means you need to always wear your gloves and watch what you are doing, you did today, and it did also, as he took off running to hide! ... so enjoy some sewing but do not let the siting keep you indoors for long. We have a great deal of brown recluse and black widows in our Coastal Southern Oregon area and especially the black widows love wood stacks, not like those are not everywhere around here, enjoy the gardening every day you are still able.
I wish I could, I have these great gloves, however I need to feel the weed in order to pull it correctly. My new idea is for a spray or dip to put on my hands that is spider proof. We'll see it next year as most of my ideas somehow come to pass, unfortunately I do not get my rewards.
My DH bought me a stick with a blade at the end. It not only get to the root of the wee but also cut the head off of a snake if needed. Being as I will have to have knee surgery soon, I do not have to get on my hands and knees to pick the nasty things. I also use it as my walking stick in the woods......
I think I want one. I still need a hand dandelion puller, and a stick with a blade would work as well.
Weeding used to be my Zen place until it got harder to bend and get up! Luckily I never saw any critters other than worms and ants!. I agree with everyone else- sewing sounds much better!
Weeding is totally meditating. I can think or blank our all the stuff, unless there are constant sirens and then the worry comes back.
Next time you get up the nerve to weed, sit on a tarp and watch and work only in front of you. I had a neighbor who only worked standing or stooping in her yard and always worked in her stomper boots (up past the ankle). When she spotted a snake, she would scream hysterically until I came running with my shovel and killed it. So sorry you had a fright.
It was a fright, I do sit on a foam mat, however I was constantly looking around to make sure nothing was crawling on me. I do not like ants either.
Yikes...I hope there aren't any more lurking around...I second the day sewing!
Well as it turned out I got the kids a day early so I am cooking and feeding hungry children. They keep growing! So far we have had pizza bagels with cream cheese and chocolate bagels with Nutella, which Christie brought from Germany. The stuff in the US is made with different standards and although it tastes good, I will not eat it.
