Hi Sarah...I see you have gotten your answer...I have done many blankets that look similar to these...one suggestion though...if you are doing any lettering, I would suggest that you add some "knock down" stitches around it (similar to embossing) so the lettering will not sink down into the plush of the blanket...If you need more information about this, PM me...
The Minky we have here is Aust. has the fluffy side as the top with the back being quite dull and visibly the wrong side, in saying this either side could be embroidered successfully. Use water soluble topper as Chris has suggested and maybe a wss or a tearaway on the back depending on the design used. Marian

I replied in haste and now back from swimming I need to amend to, yes I put a layer on top of removable stuff, either the heat or the stuff Chris has mentioned. Or you could sew out patches and then add them later to the blanket. Anyway have fun and happy sewing
