I tried something that was new to me today. The floral circle designs are just a simple outline from DBS and the butterfly is a design from my machine but the part that is new to me is they are colored in with Inktense colored pencils. They are colored in dry but then you wet them to turn them to ink and then the colors really pop. I'm not sure yet what I will do with them, maybe make coasters. That is why I left them in the hoops.

Always nice to try something new. These look great. Will the ink hold up and not fade with washing?/Lillian

The directions say to set the ink by ironing and it is then washable. I guess time will tell.

These look wonderful, as if you painted them. Enjoy the pretty.

These are lovely and would make good coasters.
Sweet Pea embroidery have several designs which require this colouring in technique. I don't have any of these designs so can't comment on them. Their pix show Sharpie pens, I don't know if any special fixative is required. Look in 'Children's ITH' if interested. They remind me of Laurel Burch designs!!!

I took a look and it appears they stitch out like a page from a coloring book. They are very intricate and would take quite some time to complete but sure to be very beautiful.

I Googled painting with Sharpies and found that you can use alcohol but that creates a watercolor or tie dye effect because the color bleeds.

Lovely work I bought some of these pencils from Hobby Craft here in the UK have not yet managed to find the aloe Vera gel. I paid £17 for a set of 12 so still expensive but the effect you have is fantastic.

I found the bottle I purchased in the health and beauty aisle with the products to treat sunburn. Hope this helps you find some.

Hello there I have done something like this only using Crayola Crayons .
Same principle colour in with Crayola Crayons release from hoop and use Brown paper on top and bottom of design and Iron it , this paper absorbs any excess grease from the crayons . I have done it successfully on T shirts for kids . Crayons are good for blending colours as well . look up Crayola Crayons colouring in fabric .
Good Luck

Gosh, I don't recall ever seeing this technique before so, it is great to learn about it. That really is a nice effect and I look forward to see your future projects using this technique.

Lovely job...I have had these for quite some time and they work wonderfully...I have found it better to use Aloe Vera gel or fabric medium instead of water with these to avoid the dreaded "spread"....that is unless you are looking for a watercolor spreading effect...

Good info to know! Thanks!

Yes, I brushed on the Aloe Vera gel and let that dry before I penciled in the color. Then I thinned out the gel so my brush was just damp to do the final brushing. Using water alone will bleed. I bought a big bottle of Aloe Vera gel at Walmart for $4.

Just looked it up and it is a Derwent brand so I would imagine it does everything it says.
Just make sure you buy the correct one not just colouring in pencils as here in Australia they are not cheap.

Sorry forgot to say what a lovely job you have done.

You are correct when you say they are not cheap. I paid $22 for a set of 12 pencils. They are made in the UK so maybe some of our Ladies from there are familiar with them. I found then on Amazon.

Fantastic idea. How long have these been around?.
Google tells me that the colours are permanent.
Has anyone tried them yet, and please tell us the results. Thanks in advance and thank you queenofhearts for introducing this to us....Ann
