I have to put a dent into my scraps and these are ITH designs that I want to turn into a quilt. Any idea the best way to eventually quilt them?

Where did you get the in the hoop designs from? I have looked for some like this but all have fancy stitching on joins. I want to experiment with a stipple in the hoop so need something like this.
I like yours very much.

These are so nice! I would meander, but make it a large because there are so many seams...

I think I would choose an assortment of crazy stitches along with some basic stitch in the ditch stitching that would hold the sandwich together but would not require you to stitch every line if you were not desiring to do so. This would also allow a recipient or family member to easily add a hand stitched name of their loved one to a block if they so desired without worrying about the other stitching or stippling being in the way. Great scrap busting project! Thank you for the generous gifts you are making for others! Pam

No idea as to your question just wanted you to know that I love your blocks and I am doing the same thing as you, using up scraps. I have 30 done but my blocks are only 4x4.

I am also doing both hand embroidery and machine embroidery on them so I will just stitch around each block when I get to that point.

I had seen somewhere a quilt as you go method that seemed really easy. I'm sorry I can't remember where. but if your squares are 6 inches you cut your batting 6 inches and your backing 8 inches. leave 1 inch around. quilt your 6 inch sandwich. line up your edges and sew together at the edges of your 6 inch squares fold your 1 inch under at opposite and iron so they are now 1/2 inch and fold under again now 1/4 inch and sew at edges. I have not tried this yet but it was posted in one of the groups I'm in on FaceBook and it is on you tube. I hope this helps

Thank you for your answer. I actually have done that and love that method. I was more looking for advise about he motive to quilt it down like stippling etc.

I'm sorry I misunderstood, yes I agree with the others a simple stipple as I think a fancy stitch would take away from the beautiful squares

Thank you.

Truthfully, I take any quilt I make to a lady to have her quilt it on her long arm! At 1 cent a sq. inch, I can't do it as well! That said, I'd use a simple quilting. If you don't do a stitch in the ditch, I'd just do a wide stipple all over it!!

If I were to keep it I would do the same, but all my quilts are being donated. It is bad enough purchasing batting etc.

My idea would be to look up some quilt artists (bloggers or so) that make simelar quilts and see if I like what they have done. And I go with the other cuties to keep the quilting simple. Or is it an opption to let your Emb. machine do the work for you? Many very fine quilt block pattern out there.

I think I'd just do some 1/4" echo quilting around a few of the shapes to hold it together. I love the random assembly of your fabrics. A+ for this project!! Avis

I am just finishing a quilt I made for my daughter and the dream machine has some wonderful quilting designs. I made my quilt sandwich and rolled the quilt so I could handle it in the machine and hooped it. Placed each quilting design with the scanning camera. The machine did a fabulous job of stitching. I used built in quilt design on squares without embroidery and auto stipple on squares with embroidery. This machine is so wicked awesome! I am having so much fun. Will post a pic soon. Good luck, it will be gorgeous whichever way you decide to finish it. Crazy quilts were my Mom's favorites. Bring backs many wonderful memories. Hugs, Barba

These are lovely and I don't believe fancy quilting would show up on them at all. I think I would simply stitch in the ditch. You wouldn't have stitch in every ditch. Depending on the recommendations of your batting, every 3-6 inches is usually sufficient.

I might try edge-to-edge quilting...looks like long arm quilting...

Not a quilter, but I think it would be awesome with sashing as wide as the widest part of one of your scraps to keep it in scale. Sashing in a dark color, navy, dark brown, burgundy or black? Alternatively, and a lot more work, you could do a neutral sashing in beige or white, with sayings embroidered on it in a dark thread color, or family names and birthdays and anniversaries. One of my sayings from my mother, from when something was misplaced: "It will always be the last place you look." Hope you have fun!

Thanks. I am planning on using sashings. Just wondering about how to quilt it.

Very cool blocks! They will make a beautiful quilt!

You could use some of your sewing machine stitches and stitch fancy stitches in between pieces like the old fashioned crazy quilts. I myself would probably just use a simple meander....it will be busy enough with all the different fabrics. Can't wait to see your finished project!

Thank you. I think the simple meander might be an idea. The pieces are so small that I am thinking that adding fancy stitches would make is too busy.
