does anypne have or know anyone who has a singer futura xl 400? how good or bad is it? I have read the reviews and they are split. my embroidery machine quit and no one near works on it any more. it is about 20 years old. as I live on disability I can't afford too much for a new. I know all of the cuties will lead me right as I trust your opinions more than the reviewsl

Thanks in advance,
Teresa

hi , singer, like Viking is now made in china. you can't get parts. and the parts my repair man {from the co.} gets are plastic or used. if it is a mother board ,well GOOD LUCK. singer like Viking used to have a 20 yr replacement on parts now only 3 to 5 yrs on electrics when I got my new brother qutro ,I bought a extra new mother board for less then $300. Viking wanted $800 for a used board.

Teresa I don't have a Futura machine but I have seen negative comments here and from a dealer too. Both my machines were preloved and I know that dealers have some great offers on new machines and the preloved ones too. I see many offers from Brother to be interest free when purchasing new and dealers also offer monthly repayments too. I am in the UK but I don't know where you are. Happy hunting and let us know what you decide

Singer is not the good old American sewing machine company any more. It was sold overseas and I have read many negative comments about the immediate repairs and endless repairs their embroidery machines require. It would be the last brand I would choose. Brother is excellent and Janome is excellent, from my experience. Others here seem to enjoy their Husquvarnas and other brands.

Husqvarna owns Singer (and Pfaff). :-)

Check EBAY for older machines. Check sellers satisfaction rating and number of sales.

SQ

I also would not buy Singer.
