Well, I was inspired by Toogie's travel tray with the Fleur-de-lis and made one for my brother for Christmas. He loves Charlie Brown thus I digitized an outline of Charlie and put it on a piece of balsa wood. I then appliqued the 4x4 wood piece onto suede leather which with snaps became his travel tray.

This is by no means perfect, but it was my first time to embroider onto wood. It took a couple tries to get it, but worth the effort.
I did put a dab of glue between the wood and suede before I appliqued them together as I wanted to make sure it stayed together.
Thanks, Toogie and all of you for the inspiration you share each day!!

Great idea to use balsa to firm up the bottom!

Great job. That balsa wood makes a firm bottom and it looks lovely. I never tried using balsa but I did sew on an old corktile left over from the 70s when it was sold in packs of a dozen or so and used on walls and memo boards.

Ah, you made me wanna cry, all of you inspire ME. You are braver than me to try embroidering on this wood. 'I' have never done than and if this is your first time, no one can tell. It looks great and I just know your brother was pleased. Great work digitizing, another thing I can't do. Keep up the good work!-Toogie

A excellent piece of work. I know that Spendlove has sewn on balsa a number of times. (Its on my to do list.) the suede really adds a extra to this so hope your brother liked his gift
