Have you had your first sewing lesson yet?
Not yet Barb. First was Easter, now school holidays to get through as both parents work, so she stays with her Nanna. Probably start in two weeks time. Though I’m beginning to think she only wants to alter some dolls clothes to fit her tiny bunny. It’s a star anyway isn’t it. Hugs n 🌹 M
try sewing parts on line and go to the machine model. That is how they are listed.
Well done Cindy for finding the manual for Meg. I've just downloaded a manual I need for my dryer, the internet is great for that. Love Chris
Hear! Hear!
I had three different sources for manuals but none had this one, and the stupid Aus Janome site, has next to nothing on it compared to when I went to the US one.
I'm just glad that's one thing less I'll have to organise for her. Her mum doesn't sew at all so no help coming from there. hugs n roses, me
So very pleased that a Cutie was able to help. CUTIES are the best. Have a wonderful time sewing. Let us know how it goes.
Thanks Sarah.Yes I struggled for hours searching online, battling cataracts is bad enough but having Meniere's, at the moment, makes using my laptop for any length of time a real strain.
At least she loved the manual, sat down straight away to read it. hugs n roses, M
Meg, you can find user and service manuals for many different machines (sewing, ac's, stoves etc..) on line!! Good Luck
Glad you found a source for the manual. Good luck with your "lessons". One of my very favorite volunteer things was teaching young girls to sew and i loved it when there was a "natural"in the group.
So happy to see you got your manual......am looking forward to some great creations by this little girl......she has an excellent teacher!
Thanks Vicki. I wouldn't hold my breath, she's a very babyish 8 year old, and I can barely understand anything she says. I take it she wants to make her soft toy bunny some clothes, size 00000. OH!!!! LOL!!
I'm not expecting her interest to last very long as she wandered off while I was showing her the what the sewing tools were. :-0
hugs n roses, M
Glad you found the manual...Cuties are the best...so nice that you are inspiring this young girl!
Thanks Kim, yes Cuties ARE the best, that is why I reached out for help, I knew someone would know where to find one.
Hugs n roses, M
Good for you helping this child develop a passion that we all have. It is so nice to hear when someone, at any age, wants to learn. I have thought about giving our preacher's daughter lessons, but sometimes it hard to dedicate a time we both can do. Maybe during the summer it will be easier to make happen. She has a desire and we all know you have to have that. Sadly, middle sister never did develop ANY hobbies.....
I forgot to say, I'm glad Cuties could help you out with the manual. Thanks Cuties!
Thanks Toogie, so am I.
The longer I searched and went round in circles, the more frustrated I was getting.
I was amazed there were so many malicious websites at the end of links I clicked on. Thank Heavens for MalwareBytes blocking each one.
Here is a link to a digital copy for the manual. It will cost 5.50. Hope this helps. Happy to see young ones getting into sewing.
Thanks for that, I had found that one but she's only 8 and doesn't earn that much pocket money.
My excuse is having to find over $7,000 for house repairs and having no money to spare for even the smallest of luxuries just now. :-(
I already had bookbinding materials to make one up though. :-) hugs n roses, M
If you go to the link for janome that I added below, under current models and economy model look for 2206. It looks identical and the manual is most likely the same as the above machine. It is free to download. I have numerous janomes and have found they recycle machine models then give them different names or a colour change to freshen them up.
Often Janome au will also rename machines when they sell them here making it harder to find the instructions. As far as I know janome au does not have the option to download the manuals
Thanks for that Sewmum. I did do that when you added the link to your first post, and I added a second reply below your original post.
I never thought to deliberately go to the US website and I have to admit to ignorance of Janome machines, except for their new Elna labled models. I'm so grateful for yours and Cindy's help.
Here is a link for a manual for an RE1706.

YOU DARLING!!!!! Thank you so much!
How on earth did you find this? I've been searching for over three hours.
I know my mind isn't as sharp as it used to be but I was about to give up looking. :-)
Thanks so very much.
I took the PDF, removed all the foreign language pages, added a coloured front page from a brochure I found so I now have a lovely manual all printed and bound ready to surprise little Chloe in the morning. Thank you once again xxxx Meg
Glad it was the right one for you.
It was in the retired section on the Janome website.
Such a lovely thing to do. You will both have lots of fun.
I think this model is either retired or discontinued. Here is the link to download Janome manuals for free from Janome website. Many janome models are similar so if you have a look through the list and retired models you may find a machine similar if not the same. Also check out similar elna models as janome owns elna

Thanks Sewmum, I tried Janome website but couldn't find a 'retired' machines, section.
In Australia it is not retired but I can't find anywhere to download instruction manuals from Janome Australia.
I don't think it would be easy for her to learn from something just 'similar', considering she is only 8 and a very young 8 at that, so I think she will need the correct manual.
hugs n roses, M
Hi again, I just followed your link and bookmarked it for future reference. I did look at support on the Aussie Janome site but it didn't have anything like the US one. I think it sucks that we don't get the same fabulous information as the US. Thanks again for your assistance. M
Sorry I cannot help. Thank you for teaching this little one how to sew. Most girls these days are not interested.
Thanks Sarah. It's frustrating to me that the machine is missing all the basic bits, but she is so excited about it anyway. :-)
hugs n roses, M
I know what you mean about being 'frustrated' over missing bits. Not that I wasn't grateful to be given a machine a while back, but what do the previous owners do with the missing bits? I can understand somewhat, if the feet fit another machine they have and they want to keep for extras but a cover that slides in and out for the free arm for sewing sleeves and such? Most of the time they are not interchangeable, unless you have the same exact machine.
Toogie, I know exactly how annoying it is when that particular crucial piece is missing. I was given another machine, a lovely Swiss made Elna, missing the carry case, which forms the sewing bed over the free arm. I have been searching onlne for a 2nd hand case, but they are as scarce as hens teeth. I’ll probably have to get Ray to make a wooden one, or buy a plastic one online, but they aren’t cheap. xxx
