I am about to start making quilts for my grandchildren and hoping that the very helpful Cuties can give me some advice. The embroidery blocks that I am using are similar to the one pictured i.e. dense in the centre and light around the edges. What is the best type of stabiliser to use?? I am embroidering on a cotton fabric. Any other advice would be greatly appreciated as these are my first quilts. Thanks.

What a gorgeous fish!. I love you you did the background seaweed so perfectly!. This design looks pretty dense, so I think you might consider the weight of the finished quilt. All that thread and fabric can weigh a lot. If it is for young children, I'd also consider the "cuddle" factor. These dense designs sometimes be a little stiff.

I would do a iron stabilizer for red and float a tear away for fish, even 2 layers. Do a sample first. Good Luck!

Hi Narelle, I'm making my queen size quilt at the moment and I use a medium weight stabiliser. I'm keeping the main part of it attached and have just taken off the edges. On some of the heavier designs I've used 2 pieces of stabiliser. Hope yours turns out well. Love Chris

Thanks Chris, do you use an iron-on stabiliser?

Sorry, no I don't use iron on stabiliser, but that would be great, especially on the denser parts of the design. Love Chrs\is

If I am doing a quilt as you go then I don't use any stabilising if doing blocks to sew and quilt the ordinary way I use a tear away.normally one layer hope this helps.

Thank you. Would it tear away successfully from the lighter embroidery?

Yes but inbetween light sewing you might have to use tweezers

You could use batting as stabilizer. It all depends how you want to assembel the quilt. You could use the red as the quilting for instance..I am curious what the advice from Cuties will be

Thank you. The red is stitched out first so I don't think it could be used as quilting. I haven't tried this before so I appreciate your input.
