Hello Cuties, good morning and I want to first thank each one of you for my birthday wishes and 'flowers' yesterday. You really made my day special.

Here is something I wanted to show you and ask, would you use something like this? I am trying again to come up with different little trip gifts. I thought this could be used for a candle mat or just underneath something.
The first group is a disappearing 9 patch. I just used 3 fabrics and realized too late I needed more. The back is the same on both mats, the skating fabric.
The second one I sewed as strips but then I forgot to sew into a tube before I started cutting my blocks. sewing the final strips together into the tube would have made it easier and maybe not much waste....
I am trying to make something not too time consuming and not too much cost, but still a nice, useful gift....again, do you think this would be used?
Thanks for any input and have a nice day my friends.
Toogie

They are all lovely. If you are not going to use them as mug rug or place mates or candle mats. Make a sample quilt or use them for the back of a quilt. More and more people are making a fancy back to there quilts. Happy Stitching :~)

These are finished and they can use them for whatever they want, even if it's under the dog's bowl-lol
I did see backs like you're speaking of.Thanks Brenda

It would have been easier if I would have remembered to sew my strips into a tube before cutting for the little sqs.-lol Thanks Laura

I love the dissappearing nine patch! I'd add some batting, thick enough to protect hands and a back for a pot holder. Everyone needs pot holders! Very pretty!

I used my Wrap and Zap for the batting in these. The D9P was quicker than the jelly roll idea. Glad you like it, thanks.

If I counted right, it looks to me to be 11" square. Too big for a mug rug, too small for a placemat. If you have put something in them for waterproofing or heat protection, I'd think pot holder, or trivet, or to put under a plant. Or stitch them together for a table runner. Thanks for the info and photos of how you made them! They really have that holiday feel. and the black border frames them nicely! Good work!

Thanks and yes that's about the size of them. I think using this fabric, the mats can be used through the winter, as no definite Christmas print. Thanks for looking.

I like the mats and would definitely use it for a mug mat next to my computer. I know we have already given you a list of items that may work for your purpose, but how about hand sanitizer covers or chapstick holders? And of course key ring designs are always cute and can be used on travel bags as well. Have a wonderful trip. Hope you have not been affected by the flooding. Hugs. Nan W

I was trying not to repeat things I did in the past but who knows...No flooding how about you though?

We are fine. Our soil is very sandy and so drains well. And we have not had the many many inches that other areas got. Have a wonderful time in Pigeon Forge. We camped there in September and had a great time. We meet husband's brothers and sisters-in law. Actually we camp in Townsend, a small town just outside the Smoky Mountain National Park. A small river, actually named Little River, runs right behind our campers so the guys can fish while the girls sew (yes we take our machines!). And love the shopping and of course the shows at Dollywood are amazing. Hugs. Nan W

Toogie, this Antimacassar is mine - I have 4 - 2 on the lounge and 1 each on the reclining chairs. I didn't make them, these are bought ones.
The tea-towels aren't mine hanging on the oven door, just a picture of some off the internet. Love Chris

This one is pretty too and I love it's white. I would almost have to make white, because I don't know what people have, nor who it will go to. Although here, when we buy furniture, it comes with the covers, in most cases.

For Chris below-made these head and arm covers for my brother-in-law's chair (this is my chair in photo). Had fabric left for his wife a clutch. What kind of fabric is your white. It looks like two layers of voile and sure is pretty.

Yes, these are all great Toogie. What about making a mit out of them by just adding a loop, basically for holding onto something that is warm. I'd also thought of head rests, you know like you put on the back of your chair to stop getting marks on them. I have antimacassars on my lounge room chairs, but something made with fabric like you've done here would work too. It's a great way of using up scraps.
You could also use them as tops of towels, you know like folding them in half and sewing them onto a tea towel, then placing a stud on them to sit over a an oven door etc. Something like Carolyn uses when she's made those tea towels but using a bought pot holder. I hope I'm making sense to you. I'll add a picture of what I mean. Of course you'd have to buy a tea towel, so maybe that defeats the purpose if you are trying to cut costs.
Everything you do for these trips is always great. Love Chris
1. Tea towels, but you could just put your strip pieced as the top.
2. Antimacassars, but you could have them in strip pieces. You could make this as a larger gift.

Your head rest cover is much prettier than the ones I made my BIL 5 years ago. Antimacassars is a new word for me and not sure if I can even pronounce it-lol
I have thought of making the towel toppers, but don't have any made yet. Did you make these in the hoop or regular sewing?

Hi Toogie, no these aren't mine, I'll post a picture of mine in a minute. Love the clutch, love Chris

I think they would be great, Toogie...it could be used for a candle and candy dish like you have shown...or a snack mat for a mug and treat...not sure how you have finished these off, but you could eliminate the "binding" by doing a self-binding technique...much faster than adding a binding.

toogie by toogie 19 Oct 2018

First one is self binding, making back larger then folding over and top stitching. That was much easier than the binding on the little block one. Thanks for your input.

pennifold by pennifold 19 Oct 2018

That's a quicker way of doing the binding too. Makes it a much faster way of finishing off. Love Chris

I think they are great as prizes for your trip.
What I would do is print a photo out like you have shown us here with something sitting on it and pop it into a cellophane bag so it presents nicely.
This way who ever receives it will know exactly what it is to be used for. Maybe people who aren't crafty may have no idea of what to use it for and this way will know.
Whatever you decide to do I am sure you will make some great things.

All cute as can be. Have you thought of doing a bigger project, such as a table runner for the last day of the trip? Or, a big project for each day of the trip for a drawing and none, or fewer, of the little gifts for everyone? PM me where and when next trip is.

There are only the two mats, mops, just turned differently and it's ok about my birthday. I received a home made card from my little Nora and wishes from all you Cuties and a few friends. No other cards or gifts. I guess that is what happens when you have an anniversary so close to your b-day. It's like when people are born near Christmas, their birthday is overlooked or combined with Christmas. I didn't NEED anything... Still it's nice to be remembered, no matter how OLD you are.

Happy belated birthday! I hope you had a great day. These are very nice. I would use on as my mug rug on my table while on the computer. I use a pot holder, it's kind of old.

A friend of mine made one, the size of a mouse pad and uses that for her mouse. Thanks for the b-day wish.
