Great idea the first thing you must do is washing them maybe 3 or 4 times you will be surprised at the colour of thw water I remember washing mine 4 times before I was satisfied. I made a handbag some years ag. am going to look for it now and post a picture .
There was a gal some years ago that wrote a book on making things with ties. Seems like it was called something like Daddies Ties, wish I could remember her name. She taught classed and gave seminars. I saw her at an ASG convention or sewing expo. I have saved my husband's ties, so, maybe this thread will give me inspiration to do something with them.
I have seen them made into blocks to make a quilth or cushions.
Yes, I have seen a fabulous Steampunk-looking idea at a workshop. The lady made a vest pattern, think it had a v collar, but she cut the vest pattern to a waist length. Then she made a peplum, about 4" deep around the bottom with the fat end of the ties. She may had had some tone on tone designs and some lace on the vest. At any rate it was a custom look and would be fabulous on someone who wants to emphasize a small waist. Vest was black and ties were dark - navy, black, maybe dark green. Might as well go with a damask or rich looking dry clean only fabric as the ties are dry clean only! Happy stitching, whichever project you do.
Can you imagine a vest made out of such beautiful materials!! What a wonderful idea! Thank you!
Laura I do not have any old neck but was kind of curious what one could do with them, so I googled it. Some just have pictures, some have instructions. There is a whole lot from seat cushions to tree-skirt, belts etc. Even some YouTube. I am sure you can find something. It almost made me sad that I do not have old ties. Curious to find out what you actually going to do with them.
I just tried Google - there are some nice ideas - I need to investigate more! Thank you!!
Hi. I have been purchasing neckties at thrift stores in hopes of making something I am considering a Christmas Tree Skirt for next year. The pinterest site has ideas. The link below should take you to the necktie craft, or at pinterest.com and search for necktie craft. keep us posted on your ideas.
You could make a Dresden plate "quilting" design out of them...
