UPDATE BELOW_Hello Cuties!

Yesterday was the presentation to our Veterans, for their Quilts of Valor. My husband was included and received his quilt from the Quilts of Valor group! (see the date) They even made a pillowcase to match or to store the quilt in, when not in use.
The group did a fabulous job of the piecing of the quilts and the quilting. They also did a very nice presentation explaining how QOV was started, the meaning of the giving, allowing each Vet to speak or not, and then a very nice buffet lunch afterwards. It was held where they sew at each meeting, in the kitchen hall of the little church. I really was impressed.
Needless, to say Hubby was the only one not prepared to speak, as he was unaware until we got there, what was going on. (I had told him I just needed to help Eraine with food at her church I wanted the ladies to surprise him, as they did all the work.) My husband was very touched and his voice was husky with emotion, when he tried to speak of his service and thank the kind ladies who made this possible. One of our daughters commented afterward, that she could tell her by the sound of his voice her Daddy was moved and also because he didn't speak long. I do know he went around afterwards and thanked the ladies personally, though.I believe it's about 15 women in this chapter.
Isn't the piecing of the stars and the quilting gorgeous! I spoke to the LA quilter and she said she had a 12 foot frame with a 20 something inch Handiquilter machine.
I made each quilter a gift of a keychain or hand sanitizer holder, with the initials of QOV, on them (see in projects). I gave them all to the only quilter I knew, Martha, so she could give out. After the ceremony Martha gave them out and the ladies came to thank me. It wasn't much, but I wanted them to know how much we appreciated their work and support, of our Veterans.

Here are our 2 girls and SIL Ashley's husband, and the two youngest of their kids, Nora and Gus. Our son had to work, but would have liked to have been there. Ashley said Nora was so proud of her Pa Pa! We all were of all of them!

Today is Saturday and I went to another QOV presentation ceremony closer to my home. You can read in my comment below to lbrow aka Mrs.Lillian, but here are a few more pics
#9-me, my cousin and his wife-
#10-had to show this quilt as I love Irish chains!

Yes, it's good to acknowledge their sacrifices, their service, no matter how old they're getting. One man there was 90!

It doesn't matter because it was finished and made with love and care. I suppose I will eventually join, just not a great time right now. I guess you could say 'I have too many irons in the fire' so to speak.

You always make me feel loved....Today I went to the presentation closer to my home. I feel guilty for not joining right away because both groups have asked me to join, but I need to catch up on other things at home first.... Even when I say that I wonder if I'm just dreaming of ever catching up....I was surprised that 2 of my cousins were being honored today, so I was extra glad I was invited. One cousin is 84 and had married a german lady while stationed there. Margaret doesn't go back anymore as all her family have passed on. The other cousin is around 70. He had received the Purple Heart twice in Vietnam. In fact 3 of the group had received the Purple Heart. One was a Korean war Vet and 2 were Vietnam war Vets. If I can load my cousins picture from my phone I'll add it later... Have a good night Mrs Lillian.

I have tears looking at the smile on his face. He deserves every bit of thanks and certainly the recognition of receiving this beautiful quilt. Please give him a Cutie hug from all of us. And to you, a huge thank you. You also served alongside of your handsome hubby.

You too know first hand how things are. Soldiers everywhere go, protect and serve where ever they're sent, at times separated for long periods from family.... Little Nora doesn't understand all that yet, she just knows she loves him and feels proud!

Karen he sometimes has that effect on me, when I look at his face. I tear up wondering where all the years went!-lol

What a very special day for all of your family and for the recipients of these heartfelt quilts. The guild in my valley made 90 Quilts of Valor for 90 veterans who were each receiving a house built for them in our valley by Habitat for Humanity. Each one got a QOV which was presented to them when they were given their new homes...So glad your gifts worked out well.

There was a lady there that belonged to QOV. She just moved back there, but belongs to a group closer to my home. She said they were presenting 18 quilts Saturday and invited me to come and meet the group of quilters. Of course, they would like me to join that one too....I know it would be rewarding for me, IF I had time, to not get stressed out by having to do yet one more thing. Right now is just not a good time for me to join, with my trip sewing and I still want to make quilts for each of my children/grand children.

Beautiful quilt (all of the quilts were gorgeous). How sweet you are to make the holders and key fobs for the quilters - you did such a nice job on them!! You must be very proud of your sweet husband!! Hugs, Laura

I am proud Laura! His poor mamma if she were still alive would tell you I nearly drove her crazy the first year we were apart. I played a song on the record player with the arm out so it would play over and over again, Please Come Home For Christmas by Charles Brown!
