A Brother solution? This is for the Brother machine sewers! My Quatro 3 was doing some terrible stitching - the top looked too loose and the bottom was just a straight thread that could be just ripped out with my fingers. So... I took it to the shop. The tech there told me that when that happens to First take out the needle plate, and the plastic needle plate that goes with it, along with the bobbin case. Second, install just the needle plate, tightening the screws. Third, place the bobbin case under the needle plate, Finally replace the plastic part of the needle plate. She said the height of the bobbin case can be the problem! Hopefully this helps some of you other Brother people!

Thanks for the tip, I have a Dream Machine and have had this problem sometimes. I will Copy and Paste this into my Tips Folder with all the tips of the trade the Cuties have given in the past.

You can do that? I just did it. Thanks. This had never occurred to me.

I have a Babylock Spirit....last week after doing a large embroidery job, I cleaned under my bobbin case....when I put everything back, NOT in the order you stated.. I put the bobbin case in and then put the needle plate and then the plastic bobbin cover....first start up, I heard a loud clunk. I turned off the machine, and back on again.....I knocked it out of time.
You must put the needle plate on first, then the bobbin case and then the bobbin cover....It cost me $200 to get my machine fixed.....It won't happen again!

Definitely the taller bobbin with the brother machines
I was told to use janome needles in my brother this has made a big difference to thread break. The brother machines have 2 tensions while janome have 1 miss one of these and your design ends up like you describe. maybe the tensions are out ? OR the bobbin is running the wrong way which I have done too and ended up with what you describe.
Turn off machine and reload design and new bobbin I have had to float extra stabilizer under at times too. Hope this helps

Hi Jan, I know with my Quattro I have to use the higher bobbins - not the ones I use in my Husqvarna! So the bobbins definitely make a difference! Love Chris

1. Red bobbin is for my Brother Quattro and the white one is for Husqvarna

That is what I have for my Quattro, the higher one, and for my ULT 2003 the shorter one. I know they say we can use the shorter one in the Quattro, but I have never had any luck. It bounces around unless I use the adapter.

I was told by my Brother dealer never to use the smaller ones as they aren't high enough for the thread to catch properly and therefore would cause nests! Love Chris

Thanks. I wouldn't be surprised if this helped folks with other brands also. This is a tip to remember.

The tech said this is not in any of the manuals, or trouble shooting. So, I'll use this on all my Brothers!

Thank you. I will store that in my memory bank. One never knows when something like that happens

It is sooo frustrating when nothing you do can give you a good stitch. At least this is one more thing to try.

Thanks for the info. Now I know what to do if my Quattro acts up.

My Quattro only seems to act up when I really NEED to get something finished!
