Hello Cuties! I wanted to drop in to show you these photos of 30 blocks and a top my friend Trudy brought to me. She found these at a AARP store. When she saw them she thought, if anyone would do something with them, it would be me.

They were dingy and stained, so I Oxiclean/soaked them and these are before and after photos. The top didn't hold up too well, as I figured, because it was made from an unsuitable cloth. I serged the long edges, but there was no way to finish the hexies and some have raveled out, with just one washing. Look at the yellow hexies.
The Sunbonnet blocks held up well, though. (See the close up of the worse block, before and after.) I don't have any vintage fabric, but I laid this blue and white under, for you to see what you thought of me stripping with it. Lord knows it has enough pink! I know it is a cotton, but not like the base of the SB blocks. They are almost like feed sack cloth. When washed they wrinkled up and seem thick, but they I pressed them and they iron out so good. I can back it with a muslin, maybe....Let me know your thoughts please. Oh, I forgot to say, Trudy asked for me to make her twin grand daughters a pillow or something with 2 blocks, if it wouldn't mess up my top. I don't mind making them, but her daughter already told her she doesn't even want them and it will make the quilt I make smaller. I don't like a square quilt and if I take out 2, that means I lose more than 2........5 x 5 square or 4 x 5.....Trudy doesn't sew......
Well, hope you like the pics. Have a great day my friends-Toogie

What a find! Are these hand stitched? if so that is a lot of work. I like the hexi quilt top and I know you will do wonderful things with it.

Yes, they are hand stitched. Not sure if the hexie will be salvageable.....

Love sun bonnet sue. You always have so many ideas. Great find from
your friend and great job in preparing them before you work at them.
A pity Trudy’s daughter doesn’t want the quilt???

The sunbonnets are so darling, and each a different fabric dress. this is an heirloom you have. The blue looks good also with it. And muslin or a small calico on the backing would look good. Good job on cleaning them all up. Happy quilting! thanks for sharing!

The calico is a good idea as I won't have enough of this blue for the back too, thanks

Great work Toogie and I hope you figure out something to do about those blocks For me when I make quilts I always use a cotton backing fabric. Love Chris

Yes, I do too. I'm afraid I won't be able to work on them for a while. I will soon get Nora and Gus for almost a week.

I think the blue compliments the sunbonnets nicely and muslin for a backing sounds good to me too. I also think you should keep the quilt 5x6, especially if the girls or their mother don't want the pillows. I don't know what to say about the hexagons. I'm sure you will figure something out, even if it is just to make something out of sections of the quilt if parts of it are in good shape.

Not sure if I'll do anything for the quilt. As for as the blocks, they are put on hold.

You remember Trudy don't you? She's having a partial knee replacement tomorrow. We will go meet her husband after I leave the optomologist tomorrow.
