It boggles my mind to even think about it! I lost count years ago!!
I stopped collecting fonts awhile ago unless the were really different.
At the beginning of the year I burnt a dvd of all my designs which were on a usb stick & it took about 2hrs.I have other designs on cds.
As for all the other sewing & craft items I have ,another 100yrs might be required.
I just checked my "sorted" fonts and found I have nearly 12,000 fonts, not individual letters. I still have 8,000+ zipped files that need to be sorted and 9,000 individual designs. I have about 150 folders for sorting designs... I know I have collected so many designs from so many websites... It boggles my mind every time I go to sort them! I am grateful I have so many to choose from and I am sure the various digitizers welcome my money. I love that we can have a hobby that takes little space and is filled with so much hope and promise!
I realize this is a post from a year ago but very timely for me. In performing a back-up today, my computer informs me that 266,750 items will be copied--and this number is NOT complete as it is does not contain unzipped and uncategorized files for nearly all of 2020 and 2021.
If I stitch only one design every day it would take over 730 years to complete them all if I add no new ones. Should I stop collecting...???
I love this post and everyone's response! I can't begin to know how long it would take me to stitch out all my designs. I do know that I am trying to buy less and get rid of designs that I would never use. (yes, I use to download any freebie available - I know better now!). About the time I decide I am not buying anymore - I see two, I just have to have. lol - oh, well! Hugs to you, Laura
I want you to be able to "retire" sooner - try 3 a day! I think of my collection of designs as a well kept library and resource, so that almost whatever people ask for, I can stitch. I have enough designs and fabric for sure and I think enough thread till it rots (10 years or so). As I scroll down and read comments, I see that this is an old post and I have already commented. Oops!
I'm the same way with fabric! I could stick at least twenty years with what I have but yet I buy more - to "fill in." I could put a design on each square of every quilt and still not run out of great ones. Most of mine are from Cute!
Thank you, Miss Veronica!
I would have to be older then Methuselah and yet I still will buy some more. Addicted!!!!!
Live long enough to stitch them out! I'll be lucky if I live long enough to organize them. I'm so addicted! Of course in my head I've made all sorts of lovely projects, which feeds the addiction.
Not even going to try to figure that out. I don't do math!! But it is an addiction to collect designs we know we will probably never stitch out. I try sometimes to delete some of the earlier, less sophisticated designs I know I won't use. Hugs. Nan
Another life time.Every year I put all my designs onto a DVD & it counts every letter , number & design in the files.Last time it was around 100,000.I have lost all my designs when the hard drive or USB has died ,so I don't take any chances now. Also it is handy to have a back up, if a design becomes gets corrupted.
Given the time it took me to duplicate my files to a new external hard drive and seeing it needed half a Terabyte of space I am afraid I will never see them all used even if I lived another 45 years, which would make me as old as Sarah. So I try not to buy new designs but I am still digitsing....
I'm not sure Rescuer. I've only been embroidering for 20+ years. I have some free designs from early years, but have bought most of my designs, but I wouldn't have as many as you.
I love seeing designs sewn out in our PROJECTS section and often that will lead me to a company and look at their designs. Then of course that leads me to buying more designs. I know it is an addictive hobby, but what a wonderful way of spending time doing the thing we love to do. Love Chris
Hi Chris, in the beginning of my embroidery "career" I found and downloaded lots of freebies. But, now they are really outdated and not near as nice as what is being created now. So, I've been deleting as I go. When I search for something and find a folder o those old style and not-so-well digitized designs I just delete them. I don't do much downloading now of freebies unless they are from great designers.
Cute is the BEST and the BEST membership deal too!
oopsI think I will not have enough time and years to stitch them all, but it's great if we have a collection to choose, however ....even with all the designs we have we sometimes still have not that particular one we would like to embroider .....🤣
I am with you and grace. I support the embroidery community as best I can and I spend hours looking at designs when I am not up to stitching. Too bad I can't stick around to stitch out all my favorites as there are so many designs.
We just needed to be quintuplet girls. I do sometimes think that I continue to buy new designs and acquire freebies as if there is no end I sight!
Think I would get a headache trying to sort that one out but a long time - maybe not 35 years worth though. Great question
