Hi Cuties! My oldest grand daughter will be 20 on the 7th and I made her this quilt top and hope to have it quilted by her birthday. I think this would be a perfect top to practice my ruler quilting, with the Handiquilter Versatool. First pic size 60 x 80-Second pic was work in progress.

My sister says not to go to all that work, because Lanie probably won't pay attention to the quilting. I need the practice but I'm not sure if she would rather have something plain.
To me the blocks are plain, maybe a modern look or contemporary. She sent me a pic of a quilt with this panel she liked. I think she found it on Pinterest and I tried to duplicate the design, even though I had different fabrics. It's 60 x 80 right now. I will check with her one last time before I sandwich it, to make sure she doesn't want a queen. I would just have to increase it 10 inches on top and bottom and 15 on both sides. I have enough fabric, I think, but I'd need more for the back if I do increase the size. Hope I'm not boring you with these.
Have a great day my friends. Hope you have sunshine and blue skies. The weather is dreary here with rain and I'm getting a cough. Hope it doesn't turn in to anything.-Toogie

I'm not sure yet, but if I do use the ruler, I have a few things in mind.

Good morning Toogie, this is absolutely STUNNING! Your colour matching on this is perfect! I love the little bee fabric to match the bee in the central panel and also the black and white sunflower fabric.
Wow! Lanie is going to absolutely love it and it's so cheerful.
Down-under at the moment it's still summer and today we have sunshine and blue skies with fluffy white clouds, but maybe a thunderstorm this afternoon. As I write this reply it's only 7.30 Saturday morning and it's just a perfect morning. Autumn is only a week away and you can feel the season coming. Love Chris

Thank you Chris. While I wasn't able to get the exact sunflower fabric, in the photo she sent, I was happy to find this black and white sunflower. Glad to see you noticed it and the little bees.

Thank you Nan. Although I like the panel and I do like how it came out, this is not my usual style of quilt blocks. I would say this is a more modern look, not like my grandmother's quilts for sure.

I used to sing this to Mason when he was little, probably Lanie too. I can't remember that far back for her, but I remember Mason. He would want me to sing it over and over.......You're welcome for any sunshine. I hope we have some today. We have had so much rain. It has turned really cold and the wind is howling today, so maybe it will help dry up this soggy ground.

That is beautiful!! Perfect for a young adult. That quilt will make anybody's day bright. I like hearing stories about quilts, you are not boring. I also like to see work in progress.

I used to sing this to the little ones. I'm not sure if that's why Lanie chose this or not. She didn't ask or send a message with the picture, but I figured she liked this and maybe wanted one. So....thanks for looking and commenting

Well, I felt bad and slept during the day yesterday which is unheard of for me, but it was one of those days anyway. Rainy, so either read, sleep, sew, or embroider. I do feel better this morning but I must have coughed all night. When hubby got up almost the first thing he said was, "Don't we have some Nyquil or something you can take?" I guess I bothered him with coughing. My sister is down and she and her friend are coming for lunch, so I got to get busy. Glad you like Lanie's quilt. I know you make a lot of beautiful quilts. Do you think this would look good with different stitching in the blocks?

crafter2243 by crafter2243 21 Feb 2020

Yes I think that would add even more interest to the quilt.

What a perfect wall panel and a lovely message! You really got the fabric colors to blend perfecticly. She's going to love iand treasure her quilt! If you do have enough fabric to make it bigger, using solid colors only for the borders may make the fabic go farther rather than taking up fabric in the piecing. I'm a quilter at heart and never tire of hearing about them. Please let us know how you do with the ruler quilting. I'm too chicken to try it.

Making multiple borders would be an option, if I had enough fabric. The fabric I have left would just make more pieces like in photo. I don't have enough for long strips, except for the black. If I do the ruler quilting and however it comes out I will show you. Hopefully, I won't have to rip. Do you think different stitching in the blocks would look ok?
