Does anyone know what that fabric that's used in hot pads to protect you from the heat is called?

Is there a special batting that is a good barrier to heat as well?

I want to make some trivets to place under hot items on my dinner table and think a little extra portection would be needed.

I have also purchased heat resistent ironing board material by the yard. As a quilter I always have enough batting scraps left over. I will sandwich the batting between the ironing board material. This way I do not have to worry which side is the one that keeps you from burning your hand.
