Wonderful! Looks so yummy!
I thought I had put up enough but BIL dropped off another 5 gallon bucket last yesterday. I spread it out in my hallway until this morning. We got up and shucked, washed, cut off the cob and cooked again. He said this would be the last of his so I know I won’t be putting anymore up unless Grayson drops some off. Only had 35 ears to tend to today so it didn’t take that long. I was pooped putting up those 120!🌽
Just to let you know Those 35 ears yielded 7 qt bags of corn. I’d say these 7 bags are more on the whole kernel side as the corn in the field is starting to dry out, finish up. It’s not as juicy as earlier.
I just cannot imagine doing anything like this. Having to deal with something in such bulk is impossible for me to grasp. Fantastic job Toogie. I think you are a ⭐️
Oh Sarah, you make what I did sound special, but this comes natural for a 'country gal' or one raised on a farm. When I was a girl, our family had acres of vegetables. When mamma got what she wanted put up and daddy gave to family & friends we girls got to pick and sell the rest, at our local grocery store. We kept our own money which was the incentive to keep working.-lol-I remember the bushels of purple hull peas. Seems like we always had some peas. Then when we'd go to my dad's parents, grandma was always sitting on the porch with an apron on, a huge bowl in her lap and shelling peas.
I haven't gotten any corn yet, except enough to eat and share. We have to buy ours, but the farmer we buy from has been sold out 4 days that we've been. We were there at opening time (9:00) yesterday and he said they started picking at 5 and people lined up by 6:15. We finally got our names on a reserve list, so should have some Monday. Yum! I love it!!
I have canned 25 quarts of tomatoes, 7 quarts of sweet pickles, and put 15 bags of squash and 2 bushels of butter beans in the freezer. I love seeing my freezer full. It sure has helped me NOT go to the grocery store during quarantine.
Amen sister! I don't get out either. I haven't even been to the bank this month and didn'yt go in April either. Hubby is saving money-lol
We didn't have enough tomatoes to can, but those you put up, will be good this winter in soups, chili, etc. I did put up pickles, but the squash we ate as it came in, as we didn't have many plants that made well.
The butter beans sound glorious! I know it takes a lot of them to make 2 bushels, too. My grandson Cam would rather have a vegetable soup than fried shrimp! I know because he was here one day and we had shrimp. He said, "How come you didn't make a soup?" :(
My DH put his bean poles up and some of the vines climbed up but not a bean on the vine. Pitiful...
I do hope you get your corn. Us southern gals can't do without!-lol
Yum! The corn up here in NY hasn't even gotten knee high! I love fresh corn on the cob! I bet the corn being sold in our groceries for the 4th of July cookouts are from your neck of the woods and I thank ya kindly, ma'am! LOL! Now go put your feet up after all that hard work!
Wow, they look so delicious!! So much work - but you'll be enjoying corn for months to come!! I showed my hubby and he was so impressed too! Yum!!!
We would make good neighbors-lol-I like to show my dh things too! Yes it's a good thing we like corn. I cooked some today and it was good. I am thankful.
I'm comming to your house for CORN, bread, chowder, muffins, fritters, creamed, casserole, parmesan, any way you fix it I will eat it! But no squirrel meat!
Come on over!-lol- don't have any squirrel meat. Remember he supposed to be scaring them away, but they must know he can't see well enough to hit them anyway, because they dare him-lol
Now that is a beautiful picture! And well worth all of the hours it took to prep all of that corn. I'm grateful you have the freezer space. Enjoy it this winter. I confess, I do a lot of dehydrating because I have only so much freezer space.
As long as I keep him enough room for his ice cream, I'm good.-lol- I have never dehydrated anything, but my kids have made beef jerky, maybe other things too. Yes, this corn will be enjoyed in soups this winter. My BIL Douglas request my soups, so I use this corn in the soups I send him. He's not eating much these days and wants to stop Chemo......
Ooh! that all looks so scrumptious! Well done to all of you, love Chris
