Tomorrow our children are going to help Shelby with clean up. Shelby said he needed fuel for his generator so they are bringing 5 gallon cans, I but I don’t know how many. Also bringing him 4 cases of water, 36 pack Gatorade, 2 barrels of diesel for tractor to use with clean up. Also bringing one of their tractors, with bucket on front. Shelby asked for bread and buns. He said he has plenty meat for grilling and just make sandwiches with grilled meat. Mainly though water and fuel.
What a godsend your gas, water and so on will be for them. And the tractor will be a huge help in clearing yards. I know tree crews are already running ahead of the utility companies clearing the roads of fallen trees. I was in awe of how quickly the teams managed to work to get utilities to the residents after Michael.
I'm not near...but I didn't think of the fuel for generators. This is really good information! Bless you for living through it and then helping other people get through it too.
Yes, I know Karen will comment but it's true. Generators need gasoline, but if there is no electricity for the pumps at the stations to pump the gas, the generators aren't much good. The portable ones also won't run your house but they will keep your freezer and refrigerator cold. The frozen food may last if the power is not out too long. You wouldn't be able to run AC and freezer though.
Some people have a Generax I think it's called, so when the electricity goes out the Generax kicks in and will run your home. BUT it comes with a pretty price tag.
Martha that gave me the okra and bell peppers has a Gererax. Hers gave her trouble yesterday and she had to call a repairman. He came today she said and she is cool again!-lol-We have been given heat advisories the last few days.
We have been continuing to watch the weather along the path of Laura. And we know this brutal heat and humidity will make the recovery so much more difficult. Please be careful and stay hydrated.
Beautifully written Karen. I wish that I were able to go help, but I have donated funds to those I trust to do so.
You are so right about needing hope. In the midst of this devastation it's a difficult thing to find.
