PRAISE THE LORD!!! We just found out our house and our neighbors on our street all SURVIVED this horrible fire. If you look at the map of the fire there is just a little notch where there was no damage. We are in that tiny spot! (one the northwest side of Grand Lake in the map). There is sooo much loss, five of our very good friends lost their homes - burned to the ground - nothing left. One is a firefighter herself, who has educated families on how to have a plan. This whole community is just devastated. So. hard to be joyful when so many of our dear neighbors are suffering so much.

I wanted to share with you all the message my friend Joan sent to me. She and her husband lost their home they had built with their children. It took them ten years to build it as they were also working their jobs at the same time. I think her letter is just amazing. (I taught their three kids and Joan is the person who gave Ben his "job."

"Thank you, Jan. We are staying at (her kids home). My Daughter in Law's parents are also here as they lost their home on Tuesday. We had a good evening last night of praying, crying and sharing memories. Definitely hardest on Logan (the youngest son) so being here together is so very very important. One day at time and together we are going to make it through this. Praying that through this, we will continue to rest in His promises and confidently walk in faithfulness. It is an open door for our family to share the gospel to so many people. They are asking how we are doing, an of course it is the Lord that protected us and gives us peace. What an opportunity we have been given."

Thank you Lord for sparing our dear Cutie Jan and Willie. My prayers and thoughts go out to all your neighbours and friends who have lost everything. Nature is certainly doing some unusual things.
Your generous heart will help so many of your friends Jan.
God bless you. Love Chris

Great, great news. Living in California I know all about how devastating those fires are. All fire victims are and have been in my mind and prayers.

California has so many horrible fires. This is our first year for major fires all over the state. My DIL's parents lost both homes in Paradise two years ago!

Nevertheless, be joyful. This puts you in an ideal position to be able to help those friends with losses. Perhaps you could put someone up in your saved accomodations. Maybe be an encourager over the phone or a helper in cleaning up messes. Hot food for the workers? Offer your garage to store someone's salvaged items? See what I mean? Gratitude can lead to such wonderful opportunities.

You are so right. One friend who is a single man of 84 years lost his home. We invited him to stay In our extra room, and he told us there have been at least a dozen people offer their homes to him. Some offered him their whole 2nd house. We will be helping everyone in the community - as will everyone else.

We don't know yet what will be damaged, but whatever it is we will are able to "deal with it."

Praise the Lord for He is all sufficient. The survival of your home brings hope to all, even those who have lost their homes. Now hopefully, your neighbors will soon be able to begin rebuilding and your neighborhood will rise from the ashes again. Now prayers that these awful fires will very soon be brought under control.

One of my favorite verses in Joshua (I think) says, "Be Strong and Courageous." This is certainly time for those!

Our community is all coming together, which is so nice in this year full of turmoil. So much love is already being shown. It makes us so proud of our little community. there are about 500 people during the winter months.

I am so happy for you and Willie, Jan. I do understand how you feel. It seems the weather is in chaos, whether it is fires or hurricanes. Are the fires started by lighting strikes or do they know? I know the grief you feel for your friends. I also know how you are grateful God spared your home, but also your compassion for friends and people you don’t even know. It’s just so sad. Sending a huge cyber hug for you

We haven't had any lightning strikes for over 700 miles! So, it had to have been human caused. there are lots of people who go to "The Troublesome" area for hunting. But, hunters are usually very careful, respective people. So, we just will probably never know.
