May God be with her and all those with covid. May He send healing. Prayers. Hugs,
Toogie, so glad that you are getting information on your sister, and that she may be improving. And Health Dept does check....they were checking on daughter's husband nearly every day when she had it. And it does take months to get energy and stamina back. Daughter still suffers from the fatigue and she had it in March/April.
We hear all of these warnings, and I just wish everyone would pay attention to them. Hospitals are full, and putting 2 to a room, and still running out of space. Daughter said her cases tripled from Wednesday of last week until she returned on Monday. Please, Cuties, be safe and follow social distancing. I am thinking that our family may cancel the Thanksgiving brunch. This was first get together we have had all year, and now, looks like we really shouldn't have it. Youngest daughter and her group (2 daughters, son-in-law, and 3 grands) live about an hour away. And we have not seen them since early this year. This has been a very bad 2020.
I don't know what the holidays will be like. I just found out a cousin of mine has it. Has had fever a week but only at night the last 3 nights. She lives in another part of the state, but her church closed because they had 20 cases.
I'm so glad for the latest update on Sheila. I'm so sorry she waited so long to get to the hospital, but very thankful she is doing better. Yes, it will be a long recovery, but she is recovering. So our prayers will continue.
Will pray for her Toogie. In the Philippines, the doctors recommend to use steam to help in breathing but since she is under oxygen, might not be possible. I hope and pray for Sheila’s speedy recovery. God bless, Mary
Continuing to pray for Sheila. I've added her name to my small groups prayer list too.
Update-Friday Nov 13
This is text I got this morning from Sheila :
This stuff is bad!!! The health dept keeps calling to check on me everyday and telling me it can take MONTHS!! I trying to drink but my taste is off. Drinking Sprite over Orange sherbet is my best drink. Coffee...yuck.
My legs are weak...heck I am just weak. I took a shower yesterday then slept an hour or so on the loveseat. I don't shower often...takes too much energy. Nancy cooked chicken salad and potato soup yesterday. I like this. She puts grapes in the salad. I have good friends.
(This part was when he took her to hospital)
If not for Craig not sure I would be here. I am down in the floor holding the toliet and vomiting and he was vomiting on the way to my house to get me to the hospital. I don't remember a thing but I had a lot of bruises but I don't remember. He said I was so dehydrated they couldn't get an IV going. He said they asked me my name and he had to tell them.
Craig made stew yesterday. I get food and I am eating.
It was just easier to copy and paste, but I wanted to update. She is still on oxygen but she might have said that. Anyway, a long road to recovery. She is concerned because meds are running out. Hope and pray she does well when they run out. Thanks for prayers coming from her & is myself.
I am glad the health department is checking on her. It will be a long recovery but she does seem to get better. All we can do is keep on praying. I am also glad that she is eating even though things do not taste good or not at all.
Sounds like she is improving and at least going in the right direction. This is a difficult time for both of you, especially since you still are in limbo as to the recovery timeline. Stay strong and keep encouraging her to keep a positive attitude.
Update-nov 11 again- I sent this old picture in a text to Sheila, hoping to give her a smile. She sent me this text:
Craig got me a GOOD watermelon and I needed those fluids. I have diarrhea. The health dept called. She said it can take months to get better! My oxygen was 93/94 when I took off my oxygrn for a while so that is not ready tho come off. Just feel weak. Nancy is cooking for me tomorrow...soup and chicken salad I like. Craig made a good stew tonight.
Love you two also...so much!!
ps- this is my hubby and me. Our oldest grandson Caleb says my pictures remind him of Reese Witherspoon, as June Carter Cash in the movie, Walk The Line.-lol
I sent this pic to Sheila and said this couple send you their love.
I thought I recognize that smile. It sounds as if this is a long haul for your sister. Thanks for the update.
Yes, it does and I hope she is up for it. I tried to tell her she wouldn't be able to make a trip home & couldn't leave. Reminded her our other sister was 2 months in hospital!
At least she is at Craig's and sounds like he is taking care of her. I hear from her friend Nancy too. Nancy says she drops off food but doesn't go inside or mix with them. Nancy said she would get anything they need and bring it to them but NOT going in. I said GOOD and thank you!
We were probably all that, I'm sure.-lol
I don't remember what was so funny. We were at his youngest brother Douglas and Jenny's wedding in this photo. Someone saw this photo recently (I didn't have it) and said that I still have that same smile/laugh today. I don't know about that, but I wonder when I was born, instead of crying like a baby, I came out laughing!
Oh my, Toogie.....am so sorry to read this, but I see she is getting better.... I will add her to my prayer list.......the power of prayer really works as we all know!!!
Hello Cuties, update Nov 11-still just texting, but Sheila says she is eating better. She continues to be weak when up and walking, so being cautious not to fall. Still on oxygen, because the dr told her if her oxygen drops too low, then you start to have organ damage. She said her meds run out in 3 days so she's not sure how she will feel when she is out. Hopefully, she will be improved enough to recover fully. Thank you for continued prayer for Sheila and prayer of thanksgiving for Laura aka dailylaundry's family, having such a mild case, except for Henry. Continue prayers for him as he still has a cough and such a young boy. Love to all-Toogie
Laura, how is little Henry and family?
Thank you, Toogie for asking. Henry is doing well. His cough hasn't been worse and he wants to play. My son has lost his sense of taste and smell - but he said he and our daughter-in-law are just a little tired now but, hasn't been any worse than a cold. The baby has been a little cranky - but she is teething big time too. All in all, everyone's symptoms have been mild. Oh, to be young! We are checking in with them everyday and so far not too bad for them, thank the Lord! Again, thank you for asking!! Hugs, Laura
Toogie you are right. She should not travel. I will keep praying for her.
Laura I must have missed reading about your family. I had some friends that tested positive and all the dealt with was loss of smell and taste. They were both over 60. I will add your family to my prayers. Hopefully it will not get worse. Hugs to you.
Update-Nov 10- I text with Sheila- she said even though she has no strength her oxygen levels are staying up pretty good.
Her grown grandkids that live here, wanted to go get her and bring her back here, to care for her. I told her first she’s too weak to make a 10-12 hour trip. Second, she is in quarantine! My goodness can’t they understand that! Doesn’t she understand quarantine!
It is good that Sheila's oxygen levels are good - I believe that means her lungs are doing well. Yes, you are right - she should not be traveling!! Keep us updated - prayers continued!! Hugs, Laura
Hello Cuties, Not much difference today. She is trying to be up walking, but her legs are weak and she is weak, even though she stays on oxygen and taking meds.
Thank you for your prayers.
That is encouraging news Toogie. I hope she continues to improve. Keeping you all in my prayers. Love Chris
She text weak and shaky- on oxygen and meds- didn’t say anything about appetite. Moving around trying to get dressed to be discharged her oxygen dropped pretty low and still they discharged her....
I'm sorry to hear this as this covid can be relentless and dangerous. I certainly worry along with you and others. Just getting up, albeit for a few seconds, is good. I'm sure her muscle strength has weakened by being not only sick, but laying down for so long. I'm hoping that she can start eating soon so she gets some energy. Please upday as you learn more!
Update Nov 7- I was shocked to hear the hospital released Sheila at 7:30 last night because they needed the bed. They sent her home on oxygen and hopefully meds but not really sure about that. I guess someone worse off came in to get her bed. I hate it for the one came in but my thoughts are surely they wouldn’t have released her if in immediate danger of dying. I just hope she can overcome this. I text her this morning but she hasn’t answered me yet.
My husbands nephew died yesterday with pneumonia. He had cancer from Agent Orange/Vietnam, COPD, so not Covid death.
I will update as soon as I hear from Sheila but I wait until she feels like answering. Thank you for your continued prayers.❤️Toogie
Sorry to read about your husbands nephew and I am hoping to hear that your sister is better. Till then she will be staying in my prayers.
Oh! Toogie I am so sorry to read about your husband's nephew, more prayers for you all.
I'm hearing of so many people dying this past week not just from Covid, but other diseases. I can't wait for this year to be over. Love Chris
Yes, my brother-in-law fever and shortness of breath , but he is well now tested ok. sick for a while, will say a prayer for your sister, hope she will so be well.
I will keep checking for updates. Thank you for letting s know. Hugs for you
Oh, I hate to hear about your second sister getting sick. Hope she is on the mend quickly. Glad you are being so cautious and staying in! Prayers for your family and the caregivers. Such a cute pic of your sis!
Thanks, she is fun lovin' (like me). Tries always to be happy and make those around her happy too. Easy to be happy with a baby in your arms. I hope there will be more days like in this picture before long again. It was just us 3 girls all within 4 years so we are all close and close in age too.
Sheila did say, via text this afternoon, she felt a little better despite having a rough night. She still needs your prayers. Also Craig, her friend that had been trying to take care of her and finally getting her to be admitted, is feeling bad again. He had it first and may have given it to her. To put a face to her name here she is with one of her great- grand daughters also named after our dear mother. This is the most recent picture I have, but a happy time. Thank you for your prayers.
Thanks for the update and the picture. When praying for her I will see that happy face and ask for that laughter to be able to come back.
Thank you Angie. I long for the time we can get together again and have laughter. She is almost as ~crazy~funny~ as me!-lol
I know words and hugs can never reduce the concern you have for your family and especially your sister. You know there are lots of prayers going up for Sheila and all who are caring for her. Please keep us in the loop. We are all in this together.
Thank you Karen- she finally text me herself a little while ago. She said she had a really rough night but thinks she feels better right now- They are giving her meds with iv fluids and she is on oxygen. Just her texting me made me feel like she was stronger. She was weak losing so much through fever, diarrhea and throwing up. Just getting rehydrated helped and I think steroids, too.
So sorry to her your sister is sick. Prayers are coming her way for a quick recovery!!!
Oh Toogie, I am so sorry to hear that your sister is not well. Covid is a terrible thing and seems to be spreading rapidly in Europe.
My grandson Joshua has just come out of quarantine in Dubai. He had terrible headaches and cough for a few days but then was fine. He is now back at work, where he thinks he got it in the first place.
I hate to hear Joshua had this disease and hope he is truly over it. The young man has been through enough.
My sisters friend Craig had it first. He seemed to be over it when Sheila got it he took her to his house and brought her 3 times to dr & ER. Today he is feeling bad again. I hope it’s just fatigue from tending to Sheila and not Covid flaring up again.
Hi Toogie, I'm praying for and wishing a swift recovery for your Sister. It's such a horrible virus and it's so random at the same time. All our family don't have any Covid. Look after yourself my dear. Love Chris
I hope you all remain well. It looks like it’s starting to rage again here. One high school closed because football team had cases. Another schools basketball team are in quarantine, teachers and students sick.
Toogie I am so sad to read this. I will keep your sister, you and all family in my prayer. I do hope Sheila will consider going to hospital. She will be looked after there. Keep Safe. Hugs
Shirley she is in hospital emergency room as there are no beds available on Covid floor. The floor is full of Covid patients. They are giving her fluids by intravenous method. I think if a bed becomes available she will be moved to the floor. However, if she can get better in ER I know she won’t want to be admitted.
Toogie, so sorry to hear about your sister. My daughter had the virus in March, and it has caused multiple Post-Covid complications. She is a critical care respiratory therapist, and she too refused to be hospitalized. She was very sick for nearly 3 weeks, and out of work for 4 weeks. She donated plasma for quite a while, but they no longer can take her plasma, as her immune factor is declining. She is taking care of multiple covid patients, and it does seem that some are not sick, or only show minor symptoms, while it is fatal to others.
Prayers for you and family.
Please Cuties, take care of yourselves, and be safe. My daughter says we are most likely in for a rough fall and winter from what they are being told. I think she said that she has had one patient with the flu and covid. Not something we want to deal with.
And I also agree that chances for covid patients now is better than when daughter had it. Daughter says that they have learned a lot, but most of the health care people are so tired...Prayers for all of them.
I know they are tired and overworked. We appreciate your daughter and all those like her that are trying to help and heal. I know Sheila is scared because her granddaughter also a nurse told her how patients responded or failed to respond early on. Hopefully, Sheila will beat this as our other sister Sharon Sue did, even though she was hospitalized 2 months.
Adding her to my prayer list. It Is amazing how some people have very little or even no symptoms and others suffer a lot. Her chances are a lot better then in the earlier days of Covis. Prayers for you and your family and hugs to you.
She is on her way to hospital again tonight. I don’t know if she got worse or just ready now to be admitted. I called her friend Nancy that lives near. Nancy is going to find out what she can and let me know. Yes, chances are better now if you don’t have it too bad.
Toogie, sorry to hear about Sheila and I will include her in my prayers.
Thank you Betsey. Nancy just called and said the hospital Covid floor beds are full. She is in an ER room right now. I don’t know what they will do for her. Rogers, Arkansas
So sorry to hear this, Toogie... hope she has a full and rapid recovery... My dad showed positive, but he had absolutely no symptoms whatsoever...
I am happy to hear your dad did well with his diagnosis. We have a large family. We have had several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews that were positive. Some had no symptoms while some were only mild. One great nephew, had fever for days, felt terrible but has now recovered. My sister Sharon Sue was the only one hospitalized for 2 months. I hope this sister does better and is well again soon. She's been sick about 10 days now.
We just found out this morning that our oldest son, his wife, their 5 year old Henry and 5 month old Evie all have Covid. They reside in Belgium. But, they are all young and we hope their symptoms will remain mild. So far they just have had headaches, some congestion and with with little Henry, he is coughing. So it is not a good comparison to what your sister is feeling. But, your sister is a nurse - and must understand how she feels? Please keep us updated - Shelia will be in my prayers! Hugs, Laura
Your family will be in mine,as well. I'm sure they understand to watch Henry's cough? Can turn into pneumonia, quickly.
Thank you, Toogie - both parents I know will watch over Henry (and little Evie), very closely. This sickness is so bad everywhere, make sure you and your hubby stay safe too!
I am so sorry to hear this Laura. I did not know that your family were in Belgium. My husband’s son, Philip and his wife live in Belgium. They are fine but tell us that Belgium is bad again.
Laura, how are your family, little Henry? Do you Skype or whatever with them? I do pray they are all better too.
We Facetime often - everyone is doing okay - all feeling it some but not terrible. Thank you!!!!
Oh Toogie I am so sorry to hear this news.
My daughter in the hospital had something that seemed to be covid as did her colleagues. They all tested negative. A friend had it at the end of last year. Our younger daughter knows of people who have had it - her next door neighbour has it at the moment
We are seeing increases again here, but my sis Sheila is 2 states away. I was afraid to take my flu shot last week, but hubby wanted his, so I took mine too. We have been taking them every year and the pneumonia vaccine too when it's due, every since I had pneumonia. I thought I would never get over pneumonia so I feel I surely wouldn't survive Covid.
