I made a few for my elder family members some time ago and turned up the bottom of the bib to make a pocket all along the bottom. This helped catch crumbs and stuff. I turned it forward and sewed binding around the outside and caught the sides of the turned up bit in the seam. Wish I had some pictures as I'm not sure I'm explaining this very well. Toogie is the expert, so I'm sure she'll get you through this project.
A smart idea and you explained it well. I was picturing it in my head as I read your explanation. Curious to know what fabric you used. I used to make Avery’s bibs long, out of a towel, to use when we fed her. Now she is fed through a feeding tube she just needs a short, regular style bib for drool and I try to make them match her clothes or pretty when I can.
I usually used pre-quilted fabrics, so they had a little body. Most of what got on the bibs was solid or maybe a little sauce, so they didn't need to be water proof. This was long before I got my embroidery machine, so I didn't decorate them.
I don’t mind helping if I can, however I’m not exactly sure what you’re needing to know. On my grand daughter’s that’s 15 now, I use a special backing that I’ve been unable to find anymore. It’s called Baby Dry and because she drooled so much she could wear the bib a few hours and it not soak into her top. She doesn’t drool quite as much now but still has to wear them to keep dry.
I usually use a cotton fabric, quilted and sometimes embroidered for the top side. I quilt it to a batting or I have used fleece, just to help with absorption.
Do you have an adult pattern? I have a pattern I drew out myself, for an adult Male and you can make it the length you want. If you don’t need it before Christmas, I can try to find it 🙄 and email It to you. Just pm me your email, don’t put it here. If you need it before Christmas I will have to look & scan it today!
Not sure if any of this has been any help but I hope so. If you need anything else let me know. If I can help, I will. Merry Christmas!-Toogie
I was wondering about the best fabric, what size, best way to keep it on (over the head? ties on the back?), do the ones that you put your arms through better than the over the head ones? need something attached to wipe mouth? pockets to put things in, do you line them? and whatever else that would help make a better bib!
You can Private Message her and talk with her about her bibs. I'm sure she would be happy to work with you. Just click the Inbox above and type in toogie.
Toogie may make them.
Toogie does make them and I believe may have given some instructions in the past. Sorry I don't have time to look right now, but if you find an entry with her name, and click on her name, you can walk back thru time for her entries.
