I do-and glad I did. It's great when you give the machine to someone.
in general we keep all our boxes of expensive things as long as our cellar allows LOL (TV, computerscreen, videobox,....)
you just never know in case it needs to get repaired, or you might need to move, then it is always better to have the original box with protection package.
I kept my first one but with all the Styrene packing it was a huge box. Took up too much space. Now if I need to transport machine I would just pack with Blankets or a heavy Doona around it.
Yes, I keep because needed if it has to be shipped back to company for extensive repair. My dealer even asked to borrow my Janome 350 box for someone else's to be shipped, and he assured me I would get it back in about 3 weeks. I got someone else's back, not as nicely kept. Any cardboard that is more than 4 years old will not be strong for shipping, so pitch those, ladies. The two worst enemies of cardboard, that make it break down ("roach") are extreme heat (attic) and any moisture (bathroom, basement). And remember, you paid a lot for that very nice, perfectly sized box.
I have always kept my boxes. Usually store them in the garage depending where we have lived. I keep all plastic bags styrofoam etc. You never know when you will need them.
Sadly we dont have a garage and as the house is over 150 years old the opening to the attic is too small
I did not. Maybe because the dealership/repair/maintanance is in the same town. Once my BabyLock machine needed to go back to the manufacturer and my dealer handled all that. I need room for my stash instead. 😊
yes, I have all of my modern computer-style machine boxes. they are gathering dust and taking up room, but still I can't chuck them out because one never knows if they will be needed.
I kept for my back-up machine - probably because it was in the old attic when we moved and I was not using the machine so I put it in there then. I did not for my main/big machine - don't have a place to store them.
I keep mine. You can store the old machine or a lot of fabric. We can walk in our attic so some are up there
You are lucky to have a walk in attic. Our last house had lots of storeage this house has very little
Always kept mine and have found it very useful when I have needed to send them away for servicing and when selling a machine. My husband has very kindly kept them all in the garage without too many complaints about the space they take for storage.
Sometimes the warranty or guarantee requires it to be shipped in the original boxes to be replaced. I'll keep it as long as I need to. In most cases it becomes a really good moving box kept in storage. I've moved a LOT!
I did not save mine solely because it was so HUGE!!! No place to put something like that.
I've kept my box. It's in the attic, but I've never used it.
No room to keep the original boxes...and can't really "flat pack" because most of the box content is molded Styrofoam...with out that, it's just a box...like any other box...no real protection to the machine without the Styrofoam pieces. If I needed a box, I could probably get one from my dealer that would be close enough to secure the machine inside...and the box my 10 needle came in was a big as a kid's playhouse!
My 6 needle machine was the dealers demo and he offered the box but it fitted better into the car without it
Fortunately, I have the space to keep my boxes with all packaging. I have used it to transport the machine for service. I was able to pack up my old machine and accessories in the original packaging when trading up.
Flat packing is a great idea to save space. I am a big believer in keeping the original packaging. However, my machine was a demo and purchased without a box. The dealer did include very nice cases that makes it easy to move or store.
I actually kept them for about 4 months or so until my husband tossed them! Hugs, Laura
