Our dear Cuties without enough heat, and enough cool too! I hope everyone can withstand all the extremes. We have heard in Texas the electricity can't keep up with the need!

Where we live in Colorado, the temps have dipped well below zero F (as low as 35 below in Eastern Colorado and Nebraska)n and up here in the mountains the warmest in the Summers in the high 80s. We don't have air conditioning, but it does cool off every evening. Someone asked what people do to stay warm in the winters. Because no system is totally reliable we have 3 different heating systems. We have electric heaters in all bedrooms. We have a gas fireplace in the living area that is on a thermostat so that keeps the heat even. We have a boiler and not a furnace. So oil heated pipes are contained within registers that put off plenty of heat. We used to have a fire burning stove, but that heat is not clean enough if anyone has asthma. If the electricity goes off the gas fireplace keeps us snuggly warm - as long as we move everyone into the living room! So.. we are snuggly warm even in the very cold. I think we are quite spoiled, and I feel badly for all of you who are suffering with cold AND hot! Warm hugs, Jan

Actually some of the wind generated electric is limited because the Wind turbines are freezing! It's hard to see any global warming in these times.

We woke up to -6 degrees F. this morning. But, according to the weather reports, next week the temperature may go up to 30 degrees F. There is a world of difference between those two different "cold"!! We haven't lost power this winter so far. I do feel bad for those who have. Hugs, Laura

It really makes a difference! There have been times our outside temp and inside temp is 100 degrees! I hope you are staying warm!

We all do what we can to stay warm. Like you, we have electric heaters in the bedrooms. We heat the mainly with a pellet stove, but like you said it isn't always good for those with respiratory problems. Then there is the furnace that helps out when it gets really cold and the pellet stove can't keep up. And finally the generator for when the electricity goes out. I agree, we are definitely spoiled. Praying everyone stays warn (or cool).

Excuse my ignorance but what is a pellet stove?

hightechgrammy by hightechgrammy 17 Feb 2021

A pellet stove is an alternative to burning wood. It's kind of like pelleted dog food. It's supposed to be cleaner and more even heat than wood. They are usually made of compressed wood. Kind of expensive, but nice to have!

These are the coldest days seen in a long time as you can tell by the chart.
I'm in Georgia where we may have a cold day every now and then, but we've had 2 days where the temperature is in the 20's. Brrrrrrrr.
I'm praying for all of you who only have heat on a rotating basis.

Thanks for the neat chart. Grand Lake rarely shows up since we are such a remote area. We have just one way out of town in the winter. And in the summer we have 2!

Thanks for your story Jan. You certainly got the warmth all sorted. I hardly use heating in Winter unless it's under 13C. Of course here on the East coast we never get snow or real cold, but our summers are stinkers!!!!!!!!!! Love Chris

Are you in the hottest part of your summer now??
What stars do you see in the summer skies - probably not the northern star!
