Toogie I was very sorry to hear about this and only this morning. I haven't been the project sections but off and on. You've done something wonderful here. She will treasure this for sure. Prayers to the family.
Toogie, this is an amazing quilt and I am sure she will treasure it. What a lot of work - of love.
Toogie, what a great job you've done! I am sure your sister-in-law will treasure it.
I know she will just because of his shirts. I was so scared I’d mess them up somehow.
Not big but not sideways. 😉😉
I don’t know how you turned it, but thank you. Don’t you think it looks better with stripes going sideways rather than up and down? 15 squares, or rows, across and 16 squares, or rows, down.
It does look better.
I copied the picture into my computer turned it around and there it is. Things can be a bit difficult with the phones.
Thanks , I deleted my sideways and added like you did here from my pc. I hope I remember this.
Toogie, it is so beautiful and masculine, almost an Indian blanket look. I hope this eases her on Father's Day and that she will enjoy it for many years as she holds her memories of him. Congratulations on a beautiful job. Did I mention how pretty the back is?
No but you might be like Chris and just love blue! I hate that it is sideways. When I first laid it out I put the stripes going up and down as shown in this sideways view. I came back in the room and sat looking at it on the floor with the stripes going side to side and liked it much better. Now if I could turn the photo, you'd see what I mean.
The site said my pic was too large so I picked the next smallest size automatically on my phone and when I did, it loaded sideways. ugh.....
You did an amazing job. Isn't it funny that it seems harder to do when the wish is to keep it simple. How big are the squares. They look pretty small. You really did well and I am sure your sister in law will love it.
Thank you A, I know this was hard, because I didn't want to cut until I was sure what she had in mind. She said simple, old time sashed blocks. The squares are cut 5 inches so I could get more out of a shirt. I would have liked to cut them larger even 6 1/2 inch but I was afraid I would lose too much usable fabric. The sashes were cut 2 inches x 5 and the cornerstones too were 2 inch square. They were set 15 across by 16 down, so 240 five inch squares.
Oh Toogie - this is wonderful! Your talent is amazing - she will be blown away when she sees it on Father's Day (how appropriate!). I just love it - well done! Now, take a rest!! Hugs, Laura
I'm happy to know you like it. I guess I stressed too much asking her too much because I did not want to , or could not, ruin his shirts. Thank you.
No rest, I just put the binding on 3 QOV, made a pillowcase for one and put binding around 4 labels. Now to design and embroider them.
Oh my goodness! What an heirloom you have made for the family. I know this had to be hard emotionally, but you did a beautiful quilt from all of those pieces.
Thanks Karen. I want to make a label but I want to put more thought into the words. The quilt was made from his shirts for his wife of 48 years.
Wow! Toogie what a lot of work and you've done your brother proud. I know your sister in law will love it. So many great colours in this and I pray that the family will all be overjoyed when they receive their gifts. Love Chris
Thanks Chris, we all miss him and Dean. Hubby having two brothers die 6 weeks apart was not easy. I hope I have made it just like she wanted.
