Hi Laura. It is quite painful and I think the best thing is to try to distract yourself with pleasant things. Don't take too hot a shower. Ask your doctor if the liquid treatment with oatmeal in it will help, usually used for the itch of chicken pox. You don't have to buy it, can just run it up in your blender with water. Also, I really encourage you to take the shots as soon as doctor thinks it is wise as shingles may reoccur over and over.

Hope you are feeling better and the Shingles clear up quickly. Try not to stress out too much as it makes it worse. One of my boys got it as a teenager at exam time and he was in so much pain even clothes on the skin hurt. Lucky it was warm weather. They will clear up but it will seem like forever.

Laura I am so sorry to hear this as shingles is awful. I had it one summer holidays and it was so painful. I has it on my right hand and the only way to get relief from the pain was to shake my hand vigorously. Dont think thats a suitable method for you to deal with it. Hope your over it soon. Not sure what the UK policy is on shingles shots.

Oh my! What a painful situation! Do they have any treatment for it? I must have had chicken pox as a kid as I do have the antibodies for it. My doctor told me that, so I got the shot.

I had chickenpox as a kid but have never been tested for antibodies. I got the first shot for shingles and had such an adverse reaction to it that my doctor said I should not get the second shot.

Oh no! I hope your stint with shingles is a short one! I got the shot years ago, now need the new shot. I will check with the pharmacy, I sure do not want shingles!

Oh! Laura, I'm so sorry to read you have got Shingles. I've just been reading all about it. I didn't even know you could get a shot against it. I had chicken pox as a little girl and anyone who has had them may get shingles in later life. I'm going to check it out when I get home. I hope you recover quickly, sending lots of prayers and gentle hugs. Love Chris

Oh Laura, I'm so sorry to hear this. I know you are being tortured by it because it can be very painful. I'm glad you are encouraging people to get this vaccine. The Shingles vaccine, now a two shot process is very safe. Now you rest knowing there are many prayers going up for you and quick recovery.

I am so sorry! My patient got them last year and he suffered terribly! He literally said he felt like a shark bit him in his side and back! Most of the shingles were on his back! Prayers from PA for a quick recovery!

So sorry to hear this. They can be really nasty and most uncomfortable. I pray you recover soon. My first attack was around my chest and I couldn't wear a bra for days. I got the vaccine, but that was all years ago. I had a second mild attack on my ankle a few weeks ago. I discovered there is a new vaccine and hope to get one soon. I've heard that stress helps bring them on. Who hasn't been stressed lately? Please everyone get the vaccine. If you get them around your eyes, they can damage your vision.

Oh gosh Laura. I am so sorry. I have a friend that would not listen to me about getting the shot and then had the worst case. I had the vaccine and still came down with shingles but it was manageable. I join you in urging anyone that has not gotten the shot to do so and pray for you to get over it fast without too much pain. .
