We also ran into something similar when emptying my Mom's house. She had a solid wood bedframe that was on the larger size. The auctioneer that we had hired said that he would not take it as he would not be able to sell it because of its size. Seems like such a waste. Glad yours found a new purpose.
Your Men's Shed sounds like a great place, babash! I recently stopped at our local Good Will and noticed that the prices have gone up. I also shop at Habitat for Humanity and another local construction/demolition company that recycles and sells building materials.
Salvation Army store might take it or Goodwill or one of the cancer centers, hospice store anyway I see you found a place. Nice of you to donate. May God bless you and your son. Hugs
Yes, it's a shame. And my area the things they have for sale have gone up dramatically. They want you to pay more for a plastic shoebox or a canning jar than you would pay at Walmart for new things. Can't figure out that logic!
Prices not going up in my area. The Lady that runs our Salvation Army has a pulse on the WalMart prices on nearly every little thing.
Here they will not take any toys for fear of spreading disease, yet they will take children's books.
Great idea to make toys with the wood..Wood is so expensive now and repurposing it is genius
So glad you finally found a place that would take the piece...it is such a shame that we have become such a disposable society...
What a shame it was so hard and time consuming for you to give away a beautiful piece of furniture. I'm so glad it will now be turned into toys to give joy to children who have had so little this past year. Kudos to you for persevering.
Charity shops near me have had a list of stuff that they cannot accept as donations. Over the past 18 months many have cleared out homes of unused goodies and charity shops are pretty full. Near where I live the centre of the town has been reorganised to make some areas pedestrians only and .its caused havoc but a spin off has been people cannot drive to the charity shops to donate.
We too have Men's sheds and they are excellent. In my area we have a weekly Swap Shop. Yesterday and the day before we had over a ton of rubble collected that I had put on for the last issue. Not sure who was more delighted, us to get rid of the rubble or the man who now has it. Recycling is so important and I have had some great buys from charity shops over the years.
Popped into the brilliant charity shop when on my way to collect grandsons. I got a beautiful silver leather skirt which I will make into a bag.
we had the same Problem .No body wants good woden Furniture.Laminite seams to be the In thing They don't realise the solid Make of the old timeless Pieces What a Shame hugs Ursula
