Hi Maria.. I am watching and sending my thoughts from London.. hoping it stops soon... we are also dealing with flash flooding here in London but it seems the more we build tall tower blocks here in London the more we flood... The rain just has no where to go as so much land is concreted over :-(
Big hugs - Maria x
Hi Maria... because the jet stream no longer works as it used to due to polar warming, our weather is changing. The extraordinary drought of the last few years is still having an effect, and the summer of 2021 is already changing to the other extreme. Violent thunderstorms and heavy rain with flooding thunder across the country. There is a trend towards more stationary weather conditions - especially in the summer months. One of the reasons for this is that the polar regions of the earth are warming up faster than the temperate regions or even those near the equator. This means that our weather-controlling current - the so-called jet stream - is increasingly running out of air. So it is all slowed down, which in turn has fatal consequences for our weather. This means that as long as we do not reverse global warming and the temperature continues to rise, we will suffer many more and stronger weather extremes, all man-made. - You have to think globally, Maria
Maria, my husband and I have been watching the reports and all we can say is how very sorry we are for the people. It brings back the memories of our Katrina (hurricane in New Orleans, La) Some lives were never found, washed out to the gulf, so my heart breaks for your people.
Most people will help each other and draw closer in these times, but with the world all going mad, you will have those that try to take advantage of the situation.
I hope you, Martine and any of the other Cuties or their families are safe and no where close to these areas. May God help those who are.-Toogie
We have always thought that it only affects other continents - thought wrong. Most people help each other and move closer together in these times, and neighborhood is lived, unfortunately, there are also those who try to exploit the situation and have already looted empty houses. From all-clear we can not talk yet, because the water masses are looking for their way while still devastate some and moved in the direction of neighboring countries, where it is then also worse. Maria
Prayers and thoughts go out to all keep safe. Hugs from Maureen
Thank you Maureen, with the cleanup can be started in many parts, fortunately the willingness to help is great, many are faced with nothing because they were not properly insured. Who expects a century of rain, rain masses in three days that otherwise fall in four months. Hugs Maria
Hi Maria, I'm watching the devastation on our ABC news here in Australia as I write this reply. It's so scary to see how much water damage has happened and the loss of lives is growing by the hour. I do hope you can get to clean water, that is one of the main things we all need.
My prayers for you and your family to be safe. Our world is truly in conflict. Love Chris
Hi Chris, I'm lucky enough to live in the highest part of my town so the water couldn't do any damage. 30 km in one direction, 60 km in the other, people and cities were damaged. Fortunately, it has not rained tonight as feared. The current problem is that the water has washed out foundations and houses collapse, and dams threaten to break. The same in Belgium and the Netherlands. As the rainforests are cleared and the polar ice caps melt, we will unfortunately get these disasters more often. Hugs Maria
In the Netherlands the problems are caused by the Maas and its tributaries, and the problems are moving North. Fortunately it stopped raining. Latest news is there is a dike has been breached, so more flooding.
In Germany the Rhine is causing havoc. The hourly news is showing horrific pictures. That same Rhine enters the Netherlands further north - the peak of it will reach us tomorrow or the day after. So there might be some time left to take precautions.
I live in the north of the country, near Groningen. No major rivers here. And today the sun is shining
Ok, I see, just before the North Sea, we both live 250 km away and had a nice sunny day today.
Praying you are and that your and your family stay safe as does everyone else facing this weather.
In a few minutes a dam will overflow so new flooding in Düren . . Meanwhile in NRW and Rhineland-Pfalz already 60 dead, the water has taken many their existence, what a madness. Our neighbor the Netherlands is also affected.
Even worse will be the pollution, the full basements have torn open oil tanks, parking garages are full and cars lost their gasoline, our drinking water is polluted .....
Weather has been crazy all over the world...we could sure use some rain here as it has not rained since early February and we have had triple digit heat for the past 2 weeks... stay safe...
Maria, my heart goes out to you. I had not heard about the flooding in Germany. Please be as safe as you can and know prayers are going up to surround you.
Oh yes, meanwhile more than 30 people have drowned in flooded houses and outside, 60 people are missing, several houses have collapsed. I listen to the radio all day and am stunned what the rain does. When I look in the sky, I see rain coming again :-( , In our country the rain devastates everything..... on the other side of the world the heat devastates everything, what a turbulent time we live in.
Maria I have seen some pictures of the damaged caused. I like the rest here hope that it doesnst get worse and am thinking positive thought for you.
I am lucky and live 50 km from a disaster area, in my garden only the lawn is under water. Unfortunately, the rivers are still rising and there is no end in sight and dams can still break.
