Oh Toogie, I am sorry someone took advantage of you. I hope you can put this behind you and realize you are the winner. I enjoyed the posts and comments. Nobody puts Toogie in a corner again! Hugs, Suzanna
Toogie - that is a beautiful job...and such a good friend. You put some time and excellent skills to work this out for her.
Toogie, Just had to say this quilt made a real impression on me and just couldn't think how you made the border you called braid. Well I ended up finding a few on You Tube showing how it was done.
All say "Oh so easy to do" which it may be but a lot of preparation and thought went into it as well as lots of sewing the strips together.
Love seeing your quilts as you are so creative with how you put them together.
You are very kind. Thank you
The braid was made with the small Half Hexie ruler from Missouri Star Quilt Company. I always take the extra time to start and finish my seam with a back stitch and finish my edges or seam allowances, either by pinking the seam allowances with my pinking shears or serging with an overcast. I have been teased or poke fun at because of this but I don’t care. I don’t want my seams to ravel out or come apart. Some joke about me being so meticulous but again that’s just how I sew. I rather sew it right than for someone to bring it back for repair later. I’m just saying that’s my kind of sewing. It does take longer to do this and press each time you make a seam but that’s my way. I like my backside to look as good as my front.
I think because our group leader doesn’t say we have to make a particular pattern for a Quilt of Valor, it has freed me to think creatively. I have learned a lot and a lot about myself, too. Also, I’ve always loved math and with quilting you need to know math.
Again, I thank you for your encouragement.
That's beautifully put together. What a sweet soul you are. Just think about another jewel going into your crown for returning kindness to this woman. There are people in the world who are so self centered that they never think of the fact that they are putting someone else out. I'm so glad for your sweet servant heart.
My heart doesn't feel good because I complained about how she did me.
Thank you for liking the top. Hope y'all are ok.
Toogie there is nothing wrong with you complaining about her behaviour. She was underhand
Oh! my goodness Toogie what a story. I love what you have done with this quilt and the herringbone (?) tile section looks fabulous. I do hope you get paid something for all those hours you put into it. I really don't think people (who aren't sewers) realise how much time and effort goes into making a piece of art like this. You have a heart of gold, don't ever change. Love Chris
Thank you Chris and no I didn't get paid. All I really want and need is an apology for treating me like this. Maybe she doesn't think it hurt my feelings to be used, I don't know. She has it now and my, about 30, hours I put into it are over.
BTW she is a sewer/quilter.
Thanks Chris. My heart doesn't feel like much when it's abused.....she may have not realized she hurt me, she is too happy it is done.
Also, I didn't go to our sewing day yesterday because too much Covid right now. (One of our ladies husband, and his family all sick,2 in hospital.) At the meeting, M did show the top and they said how happy she was with it. At least she admitted I made it BUT by showing them, I hope it hasn't opened up Pandora's box. Another sewer wants me to 'help' make her Mondo Bag. They can do this!
You have done such an excellent job of this quilt!!
You are a very creative person, also a very kind and wonderful person to make this!
I really don't feel too wonderful, right now, but thank you for all your kind words. I guess I'm still feeling a little used and our friendship abused.
I love this quilt and I think I found what you are looking for!
I sent you a private message.
Yes, Thank you, I searched online myself. This lady got it at a shop an hour away, but they don't seem to have it there anymore. I have a similar placement but didn't fabric idea for my hubby. Although his tractor is old and red Farmall the tires are further apart, but this is close, and I like the panel.
Toogie this is beautiful. I am sure she and Marty will love it. You are so clever. Hugs
Just read Mops comment and it reminded me of something I got caught up in many years ago. I used to do baby crochet items for a small business. The owner asked me would I crochet a Layette for a customer. I did the job took it in and the next time I visited the shop the owner told me the customer was thrilled with it. She had apparently started to make the layette herself and I had unknowingly chosen to do the same pattern. Well the story did not finish there. The girl across the street from where I lived at the time was pregnant and when she had the baby I got invited to go over and see the newborn. And she said "Oh come and see what my mother has made for the baby" Yes you guessed it there was my layette spread out on the bed, and with tongue in cheek all I could say was "It is Beautiful"
Oh my! I guess there are people everywhere that try & do getaway with acting like this. I normally don’t try to analyze people’s motives but I couldn’t help but think she not only got me to make it without her asking but she didn’t want him to know I made it. She probably thought I’d give it to her at our sewing days and he would think she made it while there. I am still in shock about her actions.
Thank you Shirley. I do wish I could find my hubby a panel just like this bc he has this kind of tractor .
Yes Toogie she was being a bit sneeky about it. Like me you will just have to let it go. (Just grin and bear it lol) But we both put a lot of time into making those items.
I'm sorry someone treated you wrong Shirley. Yes, I am letting it go but leaves a bitter taste in my mouth, like it soured our friendship for now.
The quilt turned out so nice! You are very creative. I'm just wondering if you have a hole in your tongue from when you were biting it to keep from saying something to her. 🤣 You're not only creative but very nice, too!!
I’m not a person who speaks up. I am listening and processing but rarely speak up. I guess first I can’t believe what was said or done, so I’m slow to think and react.
I appreciate your comments. That’s another thing. In person when someone compliments me, I probably look a fool because I stand there uncomfortable and dumbstruck. I don’t even know if at that moment I say thank you.
I really don’t mind working with panels but for MY own personal quilts for family or for Quilts of Valor, CASA, or Benefit Auctions. All these keep me busy. I love coming up with my own design.
I had asked her when she would say we needed to figure out Marty’s top, to send me a picture of the panel and fabrics like in my first picture here. I like to see what I have to work with because I usually don’t have a pattern. She wouldn’t text me a picture.
Wow turned out beautiful. It would have been a lot of time and work to do such a wonderful job.
Did she at least pay you for your work? or was the Tomatoes your payment?
I cut the braid pieces out Sunday evening. I started sewing the braid strips Monday. Tuesday I finished it, but Monday and Tuesday I sewed all day. I probably had 30 hours in it altogether.
When I took it to her today she said she ‘owed me big time’ whatever that means. I just didn’t like how it was pushed off on me. Sure leaves a ‘sour taste in my mouth’ so to speak but I need to ‘let it go’. Can’t let bad feelings come between us.
You are a much better person then I am. I would have given it back to her explaining that I am so far behind with my projects I could not take hers on as well. BTW can I pay you for the tomatoes.
I love making things for people but NEVER if I get the feeling I am being taken advantage of.
The quilt top turned out fantastic and you are such a sweetheart for having done it.
Now Angie I hate to say but you sound like a man that doesn’t read the directions.😉5- the back side seams!- lol
My daughter just told me yesterday Richards pea sheller came in. He had to put it together and when something didn’t fit quite right he handed her the instructions to read🙄
Being used didn’t feel good I can tell you….
I also agree with Mops' observation. I'm not sure I would ever agree to take tomatoes or any other veggie again. But kudos to you for this beautiful quilt top I hope she is picking it up and you don't have to drive it over to her after all of this. And no, you are not a terrible person at all. Hugs to you for being a good person in spite of the way you were treated.
We just dropped it off, read below. I really feel bad about my suspicious thoughts….
Well done, Toogie...and I'm with Martine...sneaky to lure you with tomatoes and then "throw" one at you! I am sure Marty will love it...
Quite sneaky to call about the tomatoes and then add a 'surprise' to it.
I like your hubby's remark but it turned out sooo nice. She'll love it, I'm sure, so beware of other surprise in the future :)
You know, I really think she was trying to ‘slip one by her husband’. We had to go to town so we just dropped the top off. She ushered us in the living room with her husband and when I handed her the bag of left over fabrics and top she hurriedly took it into her kitchen. I followed her and she was excitedly taking the top out. So I caught one side of it to help her see but then I held onto it and started to move back into the living room saying, let’s show Marty his top.
My ‘traveling’ niece by marriage is her cousin. She told me evidently the lady didn’t want her husband to know she pawned it off on me. Maybe she was gonna claim credit for making.😳I told my niece that I hate to be wrongly judging someone but I had just told my husband the exact same thing. If she sneaky pushed it off on me, then she could just have sneaked one over on him and claim she made it. Makes me wish I would have ‘sneaked’ my Toogie in one of the braids. I guess I don’t have a criminal mind-lol
Your quilt is beautiful. Your are very generous and kind and do not know how to be a terrible person, the lovely quilt show that. Make a label sew it on the front "Pieced by Toogie".
Thank you for your nice words. You know I told my husband I wish I had embroidered Toogie on it!
Very nice, your work is so good, and I seams you get so much done.
It is wonderful and I especially love the braids. Take the black and white to her?
Lol- maybe I should! It’s a lot of curve piecing!!! Very slow going and pin, pin, pin.- that’s a good one Betsey! Made me laugh this morning- Thanks
