Here is 9 year old Granddaughter, Vivian holding her pillow case that she made for her cousin, Henry (he loves airplanes!). This was her first project on her new sewing machine (you can see a bit of it in the background). She did a French seam on the side and bottom so there would be no raw edges. I helped with cutting and ironing and showing her how to beginning a seam. It was a fun project called Make an Easy Tube Pillow Case (you can see it on YouTube). Can you tell she is so proud? Way to go, Vivian!! You did a wonderful pillowcase and that is not an easy beginner project. I bet your cousin will be surprised and will really like it. Wow! well done Vivian, that is an awesome pillowcase and kudos to you Laura for helping her with it. She looks so proud and I'm glad she is taking on this most excellent craft at such a young age. Sewing is a skill for life and I hope she knows that. I am impressed that she has tackled this so soon, didn't she only just get her new sewing machine recently?

Thank you so much, Chris. I agree - sewing is a lifetime skill and she is young, so I pointed that out to her and poured on the praise. When Vivian lived close by - she would spend a lot of time with me in my craft room, loving the material and thread. Vivian I am so proud of you! I wish you years of happy sewing and creating items for yourself, love ones or charities. It is always good to give. However, the feelings we experience, as we sew and give something we made, are very satisfying. Sewing allows us the opportunity to think of our recipient as we sew or quiet times to pray for others. I know your grandmother is happy you have shown an interest in sewing because it can be fun and is necessary for something as simple as replacing a missing button.
