i am creatively chaotic, but all designs are in folders, and when i am unsure i put the same design in three folders, i find (almost) everything at first go: stupid only that i have 2000 cats but never the right one - LOL
Haha, 2000 plus cats…
I too save a design under different folders to make sure. The design I was searching for was on a website but I looked on the wrong site
I used to have this problem, but not so much anymore. i have an extensive sorting system. It takes time, but helps. For example, I have a damask snowflake. It would go in the folders:
Damask
Winter
Snowflake
Digitizer
I also keep a miscellaneous folder. If I find that the same type of design is appearing a few times, "like "tooth fairy," I create a new folder for it.
Now, I don't spend time looking everywhere for what I want. And, frankly, I think of the designs as little pieces of art. I enjoy looking through the folders just to see all the beautiful things!
Absolutely - I do this a bunch! I hate to be a downer, but, I think it comes with this craft!! I need to get rid of designs I will never use - perhaps that will make it easier to find what I need! Hugs to you!
Do it all the time in spite of all the organization. I know I have the file but the question is what company and what category.
I have the same issue with my own stuff, I hate to admit.....When someone asks me where to find one of my designs, I have to search like a mad woman....LOL....not to mention when I want to do something created by someone else before I started digitizing.....crazy mess, even though stuff is in folders.....
I'm a member of this club too. I'm still trying to find a specific bookmark that people like to receive. I've looked and looked with no success. And this is in my own files. Someday it will be found!
Glad to know I am not the only one who has done this......Tonya
He he he! I'm laughing down under at this post. I've done that many a time 'cause I thought I'd called it something else! Never mind it's a good way to spend a night. Love Chris
You're not daft. The whole set up is. Someone digitizes the design in their computer. Then you buy it and DL into your computer. Then you search through your 60,000 files for it, find it and DL it into your USB stick. Then into the computer that is your sewing machine. Then you pull up the stick and find the design again. If anything is disorderly on the stick, the machine can't read it. The name can only be a few characters long and often that is taken up by the name of the digitizer's site, because they forgot to put the most important identifying information first or gave it a name that is meaningless to you, like BLBD 121, or baby1.jef. If you get the design loaded, you have to arrange for proper placement, etc., etc. I think I'll stop the process there. It's a difficult system, and I sometimes wonder if it's another of those items like the fax machine with its horrible whiny song, or the vacuum cleaner, designed by men who dislike women for women to use.
Great reply to which I have been there. Sadly this was searching a site but it was the wrong site. Eventually found what I was after. Now to buy.
Not that specific waste of time, but other similar daffy pursuits.
