Than you everyone for all your good advice. Being organized will save a lot of time that I can use for embroidery work. Have a great day.
oh gosh, am I familiar with that problem! I do have lots and lots of folders - my prob is that I download and don't unzip immediately with the result that I then have to set up days exclusively for unzipping files.... boy do I hate it! but at least I have the husqvarna 4d pro software and the organiser opens any file so I can at least see the designs before unzipping if I want. you really have my sympathy, hugs and flowers ******
If you unzip with winzip immediately, then save to your appropriate folder, that also saves time.
A good way to keep them organized is to download them straight into their appropriate folders, once you have made these folders.Ricky
Karen, filing is a preference - but even if you don't have all your files organized - start with the files that you are downloading - TODAY and do it every day - the same way - no matter what - then go in when you have time and change the files that you do have - into the folders that you want them to be in - make the time - until you have them organized - then you will have a better idea - of the way that you prefer to view them - as for me - I started with the folders with the name of the sort of design it was: Angel, Butterfly, FSL & etc. - but then I couldn't remembe whose design it was - so I put folders under the category - that didn't stay that way long - as I changed it to the Designer with the Category or the name of the sets - that seems to work best for me - at this time - by who knows - I might change it as I go. What sort of database do you have? Do you have one that allows you to look at your files - to see what they look like? You can do that with Designer's Gallery and Palette or PE Designs - there are many of them - but one thing is - you have to use the database every day to get used to the way that you file things - look at your designs - learn what you have and you will be so much happier when you know exactly where your files are. I hope this helps and I know that when you get organized - it may not be my way, or any of the other 'CUTE' family members way - but it will be yours and you need to know where your files are and who the designer is that you bought them from. Have fun and let us know - what you decided to do.
You've gotten excellent ideas here I now file mine by sites & sub fldrs * like jrob I keep a projects fldr ready for my things to do. Filing by dite makes it easier to keep up with where the design came from. *4U
I too, like Letvia, sort by site/digitizer. And from there, I have subdirectories like Animals, Holidays, etc... the reason I keep them separated by site, is that each digitizer stitches differently... I tend to combine like-digitized designs. :-)
I use both methods mentioned here already. I file by designer, the sort by content. I also have a project ready file, that contains things I already know I'll be doing and they are designs that for instance I have added a name to or resized. They wait there until I have what I'm embroidering on and it is hooped and ready. I get numerous jobs ready at once and then can sew without thinking about where I have to retrieve a design.;)
Thanks for the great ideas. I especially like the idea to have the projects already for you to do.
I file mine by alpha, animals_farm, animals_zoo, children, angels and so on. I like the visual of a book type with a print of several designs on the page, filed as on the computer. This way I can thumb thru my designs and on these pages which are in sleeves is the info of where they come from and any notes I want to add. Thats my way...
yep that is part of what i do to. Think it is a good idea to have it in a book as well on the computer.
I've made files and named them: Alphabets,Baby Designs, Kids Designs, Frogs, Turles, Horses, Flowers, FSL, things like that. It helps me find things.I have a written file with all the sites and what I download. I didn't do that in the beginning and boy what a mess didn't know where anything came from. Hope this helpsyou. *4U
tha's me... a mess. But I download everything to disks, tag them and put them in a little box, ready for me when I need them...but messy, also cheap...
I have mine organize by sites. For example I have a folder for Cute, another folder for Amazing Embroidery, etc. and always when I download a design from a new site just make a folder for that site and when I stitch it out I know where the design came from. Flower and XoXo
