Hello Cuties, I have two quilt tops to show you. I started the Lone Star after Christmas. I have it sandwiched and pinned ready to quilt. The other top idea was sent to me by a friend. It is in Missouri Star Quilt tutorials, Triple Play with scraps. I changed mine, making 12 1/2 blocks and then sashing them with Blue stars, although from a distance, they look like X’s. The last picture shows how Jenny was putting her blocks together. I got tired of making them so I decided to sash and border to get my size of 68x82. Some of my scraps are 1/2 inch square and 3/4 inch long strip finished! ( I know I showed Angie the Lone Star and I wasn’t sure if I already showed all of you. If I did, oh well…

I do have 20 more of the scrap blocks that I can add to so it will end up like the last picture…, or not. You know I always like to change it up-

The Lone Star is a marvelous achievement! I have trouble with squares let alone star points! I avoid those point at all costs!

If I understand this correctly, Triple Play is sort of a "crumb" quilt? And a crumb quilt is a quilt made from "left over" fabric which is also called a scrappie?

I so enjoy your posts and look forward to seeing what you are working on.

The lone Star today is made my sewing strips together then cutting at the correct width and angle. Watch a tutorial on You Tube. Much easier today with rotary cutters than in our grandmothers time.

If you ever go to Missouri Star Quilt Company site, check in the menu or scroll down the page. It might say Tutorials on left of page. The Triple Play is 3 tutorials using same ruler or idea, 3 different versions.
On one of the Triple Play tuts is Crumb quilts. I call mine scraps bc that is what you’re using, leftovers. Watch their tutorials, they’re free!
I have a quilt top I just finished today that is fast and easy. I cut it out yesterday so that’s how fast!

sewmadau-I found this for you
I forgot to say pivot when you get to the intersection but I did say keep your pieces out of the way so you don't catch in the seam. As I said, my minds not working right anymore. too much to think about. sorry I hope this link helps.

Beautiful, amazing and wow as always.

Know I am a little late in replying but we have had the painters in they did a great job, my sewing room also got a coat of paint, but the work to empty it was horrendous. We are still in recovery mode, all I can say is never again. LOL

I have a question what is a Y seam.

Google it-lol- that is what my kids tell me if I don't understand something.
I will try to explain. Do you see this Y. Pretend you have 3 pieces of fabric that all have to connect in seams.
The Y does not make a straight line from top to bottom or bottom to top because it V's off.
You have to mark each connect piece the seams width away. In my case I take a quarter inch seam. So on each piece where the ends will connect, I mark 1/4 inch away.
I then place two fabrics right side together and sew my seam stopping 1/4 inch away from the end.
I then add my third piece and sew it to the marks, keeping my first two pieces out of the way but catching seam allowance to join all.
I know someone else could explain it better. It's too much for me to think about right now. I was teasing you earlier but you probably would be better off asking google how to sew a Y seam.

Beautiful, as always!!
Last week I went with my husband to the VA when he got his shingles shot. As he was in with the doctor, I watched some folks set up tables and load them up with "stuff". As we were leaving we saw that they were giving away some goodies. Some men got some handmade quilts like you make. We went through the line and received some coffee, socks, lanyards, and freshly popped corn. Quilts were gone, but we surely didn't need one. Even I got some Mary Kay lotions and soaps. We felt really special as we were leaving and I know there are some warm veterans tonight!! Thank you for sharing your talents with the vets! 😊

Your story warms my heart and that is why I do what I do. To warm them, to comfort them and to bring others joy.
By the way, I want to make my sister a quilt this year. She doesn't know. It may be for Christmas but then neither of us may be here by Christmas so when I get it made she may get it right then. She is always sending me photos of quilts she sees saying she bet I could make that or how do you suppose they made this one? Anyway, I asked her the other day what was her favorite quilt pattern. Guess which one she said? I know you will know.

She said it was her favorite but she knew she would never make it. I said my favorite is the old timey Grandmothers Flower Garden with the white row around each and the green path all over. I told her IF I ever made one it would be mine. I love that but will not be hand sewing. I may have to sew Y seams if I do, but don't ask me how!-lol

Does your sister like the wedding ring? The one that takes so much accurate measuring? I don't know Grandmother's Garden. I do know you can do whatever you put your mind to!!

Thank you Caroline. I feel like I haven't done anything in so long. I'm just now getting a little more interested. I hope I get my zest back, because I have a list to do. Nothing I have to do mind you, but goals I set for myself, for my charities and for gifts. We are going into the third month of the year already and I don't have the first child's quilt made for CASA.

Your star quilt is amazing. I remember my mother made a star quilt; I was intrigued by how it was done. I was very young, and I remember rubbing my fingers over the pieces. Your work is always awesome!

Thank you, I watched a you tube video because I had never made one and didn't have a paper pattern. The star was easy. The split corners, ugh. I'll do set in Y seams if I ever make another one. So much easier for me anyway.

Thank you my friend. As you can see this Lone Star is still waiting. When I get ready to quilt something I will have to quilt this one for my pins-lol

I guess, according to most, I do make them quickly. I credit fast sewing to my time sewing factory work, where you had to be fast. Thanks

Love your quilts, great job on both of them. The second one is a good way to use up the scraps. Great job Happy Stitching :-)

I did use a lot of scraps but still have enough to finish the second one, I’m sure. Thanks

I really like the way your made the outer stars with the same fabrics as the Lone Star! I have a lone star about 3 down on my to do list, would it be ok to steal your idea and add the smaller stars around the edges??? I have also done a couple of the Mile a Minute Scrap quilts and one is my favorite for cool evenings and my husband quickly claimed another one .
Thanks for sharing, you always inspire.

Be my guest, I am happy to know you like the Star enough to copy it. I needed to lengthen so that is why they were added. I really like it. The problem I had was the large background squares in corners. You split them to avoid Y seams. My next, if I make another I will sew Y seams. I rather sew them than this look, but I am quilting it myself so I hope to work it out. Another thing, I laid out my 6 stars top and then put opposite stars at bottom. When I sew them onto the Lone Star I sewed the same. In other words the blue on the top & bottom left dh hold have been blue on top left as is and then the navy at bottom, making the bottom lighter blue on right. Anyway, I laid down right and picked up & sewed wrong. Well, no right or wrong way as I had no pattern -lol- Grandmothers Garden the old way is what I like but may never make. If I do, it will be mine-lol

Yes, I am thank you, but hubby just asked me if I could help him move his saw. He knows I’ll help. I just hope I don’t get down again. He is going to cut me a template from plexiglass and make a table for one of his saws. Nora was here a few days ago. She has an order in for doll beds-lol

Thanks, the guy I watched had really pretty fabrics in pinks and teals or aquas. My oldest daughter finally found fabrics she wants, in today’s Daily Deal at Missouri Star. It’s called Love Notes. I like the roses, but it has so many light fabrics, I personally wouldn’t have chosen it. I’m just glad she finally chose SOMETHING-lol Now she will have to choose her pattern design.
