Hello Cuties, I want to tell you this must be the easiest and quickest quilt top I ever cut out and pieced. Goes together so fast!

How fast you ask?
I cut it all out yesterday. Cooked, cleaned kitchen, started sewing, stopped & visited about 3 hours with our son, ate 2 nd meal, cleaned kitchen again🙄, sewed till bedtime. Hubby cooked a soup for us so I could sew today. I finished piecing it together just after lunch.
Now if you have a quicker pattern, send it to me!

It is 40x55 a small child’s quilt, but you could make this any size you wanted.
It is made from a tumbler ruler. However, I did not have one. My friend did so I told her to measure it for me. I drew a 5 inch straight line for the bottom. I found the center and marked a dot on top 5 inches up. I then drew a straight line on top 1 and 1/2 inch from each side of center dot. Then just drew a straight line that will angle from top 3 inch mark to bottom 5 inch mark on both left and right sides.
I was going to cut me a cardboard tumbler pattern, but hubby wanted to try out his new saw. He cut me a ruler out of scrap plexiglass he had. How nice was he!
That’s the pattern. You just have to pair your colors up and lay them all out for the size you want before you start sewing.
When you sew you will be sewing top to bottom rows, NOT side to side. I start at top side and pin one to another all the way to bottom. - look at left side - pin the white with blue Star to the blue wave placing the white top side of tumbler to the bottom blue tumbler-see photo -then pin blue wave to stripe fabric, opposite sides together, always placing top side of one tumbler to bottom side of the other tumbler.
I pin each row all the way from top to bottom at one tome then take to machine. That’s how you sew. Your rows will be long and narrow from top to bottom. Then after all pieces are sewn into rows, just sew your long rows together again from top to bottom.
Be sure you keep your pieces in correct order so your pairs will match. You will always have a half pair (one tumbler with no match) at the sides on either end. See my very top row across from side to side has the white on left edge and the next row across has a stripe on right side edge.
I hope you understand. If you piece then I know you do. If this is your first time, it’s all just straight sewing.
I do have to trim my top and bottom edge, of the finished quilt top, straight. I might wait to do that after I quilt it though.
I hope you like this quilt top. I probably will quilt in waves or my usual free motion stipple. I’ll let you know when I do. I’m trying to get a few tops made so then I can quilt all of them at once.
The fabrics are an older collection from Moda called Bartholdi-Meow’s Reef. It was sent to me from an online acquaintance for me to make children’s quilts. She kept it so long now had no little ones to sew for. She had two fat quarter bundles just alike and she sent me both! She said to make my grandchildren or my charity quilts with it. This one is for CASA. I think she will be pleased to see I’ve started using it.
Hope you have a nice day or night wherever you are. Please pray for Ukraine and it’s people. ❤️Toogie

You have inspired me. Sometimes my head is like concrete and I have no creative thoughts. Other times I can't even start a project because my mind is whirling with ideas. I have the Tumbler die and have not used it. I wasn't that excited about the pattern. Now I see your beautiful quilt, with the pattern going sideways, and I love it! Why I didn't think of it going a different direction is beyond me. See, head full of concrete. Now I am inspired and I too make a lot of my own templates.

We have to be creative at the rising cost of supplies! This wasn’t my idea but like you, I was inspired by seeing someone else make it this way. You have to have it all cut out before you start, keeping the pairs aligned.
I’d love to see your work.

Toogie, I sure wish you and I lived closer to each other!!! It would be so great to sit and sew quilts. We could share and learn. Keep on quilting! Tonya

I would love that! My grandmother and her sister would each piece their own tops, by treadle machine, then her sister would come over to Momo’s and they would put them in the frames to quilt by hand. Momo had the corners propped on wooden chair backs and we could play under the quilts.
Yes we could play if we were closer.

I love this and have the fabric to make it. I don't have anyone to make me a template, so I went to 2 fabric stores, no luck so I think I will make a template from cardboard. Not today but maybe in the future, thanks for the information. Hugs, Suzanna

Hubby always ask me when a box is empty if I want it or he will leave it out for me. I have made templates before to try out patterns so he knows-lol- I don’t like the corrugated cardboard but the Saltine or Ritz boxes we get multiple boxes in from Sams Club works well. You just have to go a little slower or be a little more careful cutting with the rotary. Hey, MSQC had their templates a good price yesterday. Let me see if they are still on sale if you’re looking to buy. I’ll be back-

Yes it is on sale, but not for long. They have the Mini that you use with 2 1/2 in jelly roll for $2.77 and the Small 5 inch like I used here for $5.57. The great big one for 10 in is also on sale and I always thought it was too big but then I watched a YouTube video she did using the 10 inch tumbler and I kinda liked it. I can’t remember off hand the name of the tutorial but go to YouTube and type Missouri Star Quilt Company tumbler quilts and I bet it comes up. She would cut a whole 10 inch tumbler, then take another square of fabric and use only half the ruler. $11.87 was the large tumbler. I’m sure you could make the pattern with the 5 inch too by finding the very center and marking with a tape. Good luck! Glad you like the layout this way enough to want to use it.❤️Toogie

Love your sideways layout of the tumbler. That gives it an entirely different look. Good for you figuring out how to make your own template and your husband creating it for you. You have a jewel as a husband. I hope you are feeling better soon and solve your digestive problems

I guess I seem tight but I didn’t want to buy a special ruler and maybe only use it a few times. The tumbler is only straight sides but you do have to get them even and squared up. I have made cardboard templates before for my box blocks table runner because I knew I wouldn’t be making it again. I would have done the same with this tumbler but I’m glad he made it from plexiglass. I have a feeling I’ll make this again as I like the look and if I need one in a hurry, this is it!

What a fun looking quilt! I'm so glad you are back to sewing because I know you really enjoy making quilts. And kudos to your hubby to make the ruler you need AND to make soup so you could finish it before bedtime. Keep stitching and be good to that back and digestive system.

I’m glad to be able to sew again, just wish my embroidery machine worked. Last time I used it was fine, so I don’t know why the problem started.

Toogie, yout team work is brilliant. I am presuming that you have a huge fabric stash or do you buy fabric with a design in your mind. As ever I am amazed with your speed of completion. I have started to move backwards and no longer get as much done in a day as I would like. Did get a lovely walk in yesterday as it (as it is again today) sunny.
Thanks as ever for sharing your work I love seeing what your creating.

Thank you C, as I stated above this fabric was sent to me and was a bundle of Fat Quarters that all coordinate.
Now when it comes to other things, speed is not my strong suit. 😃 a walk sounds nice

Hi Toogie, what a pretty quilt! I'll have to make one of these, I've made a tumbler quilt before, this is a little different! You are so quick! I wish my husband cooked. Thank you so much for the instructions and measurements.

Hi! I’m glad to help you see a different way to get use of your tumbler template. I have a rotating cutting mat about 14 in that helps me with cutting. The sewing is just straight so it really goes together quickly. I can’t wait to see yours so please post it. Have a nice day❤️Toogie

Two Cuties to make this cute quilt, one for the fabric and one for the labor, plus a hubby who cooks! (Keeps his wife happy.) Made me smile to see you having some fun.

Thank you , it’s good to enjoy something. However, my fabric supplier was not from Cute. Sorry if my post mislead you or you misunderstood. Hubby can cook some things and will if he wants to see a quilt top done. He can’t visualize like me.😉 We really ended up making it together but I give him the credit. I have been having digestive problems so he suggested a soup. Some days I can’t express how much he means to me. Other days, I look at him and wonder if I even know him!-lol😂
