I have managed the embroidery for the front and back. Now we will see if I can piece fabrics around the embroidery squares, quilt, put a zipper in and then get it altogether. Maybe I won't need therapy after all, if I keep moving. Dr said if therapy didn't hurt, I wasn't doing any good, so I must be improving cause it hurts!-lol- I think I'll quit for the day and think how to frame it up.....
I think mason will love it! You are a sweet sentimental grandma to make this for him. I made my granddaughter a small quilt when she was born. It turned out to be her favorite blankie. Fast forward when she graduated from high school, I made a video with the left-over fabric as a backdrop. When she has a child, I will make the child a blanket from the same fabric. Now the song is in my head all day! Hugs, Suzanna
Don't you just hate it when you can't get a song outta your head-lol-I'm not the only sentimental grandma, I'm finding out. Most Cuties are! My husband and I hand quilted Mason's quilt I appliqued, before he was born and before I discovered digitized machine embroidery. I satin stitched with a zigzag my animal drawings, from a jumbo coloring book. I do know how they get attached.
I love that you have thought of doing this for your grandson. I too sing or have sung that song to my grands and now my greats. Now our soon to be 5 year old great-granddaughter that we keep some now sings it back to us. Her PopPop had her out in swing when she was maybe about 2 and he was singing that song to her, and she looked up with all innocence and told him, "PopPop, you know you can't sing, right?" He still chuckles about that. But I think your grandson would love to have that from you. They grow up so fast, I have to love every moment we have with each of them.
You sure made me laugh. Reminds me when Lanie was about 6 she wanted one of Papa's cookies (tea cakes). You know they aren't very sweet and no icing. He proudly gave her one and after she bit into it she said, "He sure can't make good cookies!"-lol
Your little granddaughter singing reminds me of when Ashley (now 41) was about 3, my sister-in-law Weeda kept her while I worked. Ashley learned Jingle Bells at Christmas and could sing it to high heaven. When it was about May or June, my brother-in-law said, she needs to learn a new song. Christmas has been over!-lol
How wonderful, what a great achievement. My Mom and aunt used to always sing this song . I made them some pillowcases and a throw pillow saying you are my sunshine. I also talk to myself a lot, sometimes I need expert advice. (Ha-Ha)
Who better to ask advice than ourselves!-lol
Jimmie Davis wrote the song and then was elected twice, as governor of Louisiana. I've probably sang it to all of my grandchildren, at one time or the other, but that's the one I'd get Mason down with.
I love the story and your idea. He may be the strong silent type, but we all know he loves his grandmother and will treasure this gift. Please tell Mason, Congratulations on reaching this milestone. And my prayers for you to be able to stitch this for him without increasing your pain.
I know what you mean about pain, but my daughter keeps telling me 'you don't want to get frozen shoulder'. I think Tuesday I will go ahead and get set up for therapy. I was hoping my daughter would give me some or at least show me some to do at home but seems she always has too many irons in the fire for mamma. It's okay, I just hope my part after medicare & insurance, will be low.
I know he loves me but has always had a hard time showing.
Yes, you are a sentimental grannie, me too! I love the idea and I know Mason will appreciate the gesture. You are one beautiful soul! Love Chris
Ah, Chris, you warm my heart. Yes we are sentimental and both October babies, remember-lol
Toogie what a wonderful ides! I'm sure he will love it!
If he is anything like you, dear Toogie, he will be over the moon with your personalized gift to him.
Mason ACTS like he don’t like hugs, so I don’t initiate them, but let him hug when he’s ready. However, I may not get one till he starts to leave.
Love your idea Toogie sounds super. If it’s any consolation my husband often asks what I said. My reply is oh I was talking to myself. I regularly talk to myself
I guess we all do that at one time or the other. When I'm still thinking a project through, sometimes I fear, I don't explain myself well.
I am sure he would be delighted with a throw-pillow with the lyrics on it. Or, put, 'Be someone's sunshine when their skies are gray'. That is sweet too! Please tell him I said, Happy Graduation, Mason!! Hugs, Laura
I had planned a design for each side of the pillow. I guess I should have put the picture of both designs. I didn’t write all the lyrics, just You Are My Sunshine for one side and the other side Be Someone’s Sunshine When Their Skies Are Gray- I will tell him, thanks Laura
