That's beautiful, I love it, Patti.
Here in Melbourne (Australia) we have a Derby Day early November (it's Spring) every year. The festivity covers a few days (a week, if I remember correctly) and there is a Ladies Day where there is a fashion competition with ladies showing off their most extravagant hats and dresses.
Hugs, Lidia
Hi Lidia...I think different areas in the world have celebrations of sorts some lasting weeks. We have the KY Derby and celebrates come of course in their finest and also attend fund raiser parties and other parties. We have events all week long leading up to the Running For The Roses Horse race. I've never attended either and just turn into t.v. for the running of horses just to see who wins. All people those dress either beautifully or the wackiest. I do love seeing the hats.
You know, I looked at this picture again and I remember where that black netting came from. It was wrapped around a smoked ham I bought at the store---isn't that funny? I have 2 hams in my freezer and yes wrapped. I know I'll be washing and saving this netting again for something.
I'm laughing with you. Did you have a special aroma at the luncheon? Eau de Miss Piggy.
You are so clever to come up with this cute idea. I think you far outshined all of the other women wearing it.
Well, let's say I shined alright. BUT, I did it and I usually don't do anything to stand out in a crowd. Food was good lol.
Very pretty and it’s lovely being diffetent
Well, I was the odd ball out that is for sure, but I never wore anything like this and I don't care for the Derby except when the horses run I try to guess then who will win. I stay away from it all.
You did a lovely job. The people who organized the luncheon would have been thrilled that you wore your lovely fascinator. We were invited to a fancy dress ball, we were the only ones in fancy dress. I know just how you must have felt.
Well you got to dress up to the 9's as the saying goes and I had fun in something I ordinarily would not have had on my head! At least they all recognized my black plastic bow as coming off a ham. How funny is that.
love your Fascinator. Did the other women wear derby hats? I am glad you enjoyed your self
I am from Kentucky and Louisville is know throughout the world as The Ky Derby. People from all over the world and rich and famous gather and bet on the horses. On Derby Day and preceding events all the ladies and gents dress in finery and wear fancy hats that either go with their expensive clothing or some make crazy hats. Some are so beautifully made. Movie stars, rich, famous all gather for this 1st Sat. in May for this event. I lived in CA as a kid and the only thing the students in my class knew about KY was The Ky Derby.
