Outstanding! Wish I could perch just behind your shoulder. :)
Toogie, not only have you conquered this beast, you have posted a picture, all the details, a fine story (I read it all), and youtube with the name of the border and that it can be made singel or double. Thank you for sharing with us, I have been looking for this design. It will take me much longer but I am going to give it a go.
I’m going to add the picture that was sent to me so you can zoom in or stretch it, so you can see the quarter square triangle squares. On YouTube she has you sewing strips but you’d have to be really precise to cut them and match up. I will do it my way-please show yours when you’re done. I’ll add picture of two rows but hers look smaller than my 4 1/2 in QST. Two of my rows make 8 1/2 inch. Photo above
As I said before. "You are amazing". I think the more challenging the designs are, the more you dig in trying to figure out how this works. The results are great quilts for well deserving Vets . Great to have a ripping partner 😊
My ripper is nearby at all times though I try not to bother her-lol
I don’t like boring so that’s why I rarely repeat a pattern. I have to really like it. I will be repeating the Bargello wave I just made, only because I have an extra strip made I don’t want to waste. I do like a challenge. Thank you for always encouraging and supporting my ideas.
Tead your story. And i must say. You are a girl that never give up. Allways looking for solutions. What you have done with the border, couldn t be better. Congratulations
Thank you Anita. I do like a challenge but I have to also like what I’m trying to make.
Oh MY! I read your entire story and am glad I did. I had to laugh when I read about your companion. My handsome hubby says the same thing, he has shortened it to YouTube. I'm glad you persevered. This is a beautiful quilt and I love the Twisted Ribbon border.
I like the finish of the Twisted Ribbon or Curling Ribbon, too K, but I don't like all those seam allowances. I clip them with my pinking shears and press, press, press but I still don't like them. I am very pleased with the result and doesn't that bright white really make it all pop! My husband just thought of 3 more military men vets he knows to award and we have 2 active great nephews and one that's been honorably discharged recently.
Please ask your husband, as I'm assuming a lot to think of him older than his 20's (lol), if men his 'mature' age, would rather a panel quilt or R/W/Blue one with blocks. I need feed back. Sharon, our group leader says she thinks the younger guys prefer the panels and the older ones the Star blocks or traditional block quilts. However, I've had one older guy that said he loved those panels. So he was awarded a panel quilt. I hurried and made it, from piecing to quilting, and thankfully he was able to make the presentation. He died a few months afterward. He really loved his quilt and my heart was full. Rocky was a sweet man. He told me that he was glad he got cancer. He said he never would have found the Lord if he hadn't. He said his life would have gone on unchanged, not doing anything bad but also not seeking the Lord.
Toogie, I handed my laptop to Rob to answer your question. You gave him a good chuckle with the reference to his mature age. Anyway, he responded with, he did not have a preference as to the 2 choices. He feels it is an individual choice. He did say, he was given one with his name on it. He would have preferred it did not have his name so he could easily pass it on to a hurting vet. And he hopes that family members also treasure these quilts as the vets do. Please do keep sharing the stories of the quilts and the vets who receive them. It will be wonderful to run into Rocky in Heaven. I'm looking forward to it.
Regarding the name on the quilt. It could always be add to by adding "Given with gratitude for your service, from Robert the Great". Or some such wording. I don't know your husbands full name so I had to improvise.
